.......A friend of ours in Gilford has lots of poison ivy in the woods and asked us how many feet away from the lake can Round-Up or another pesticide be applied. We do not know. I'm sure someone can tell us. Thanks!!

Not sure about that, Jeanz but can tell you what worked for us. My daughter had a big patch that kept coming back after spraying so we put on those full body painters suits (very light weight), gloves hats and boots and pulled them all out by the roots. Afterwards you have to carefully remove all clothing to wash and then clean up with soap and water.
It worked great......she now has nice grass growing there and no sign of the ivy after several years.

If you decide to go the route that SAMIAM suggested, I can give you a full length, head to tow cleanroom suit that is very lightweight. It's disposable. Got a case of them in the garage that I use for these type of projects from back in my biotech days....

Jeanzb1 - we have a stone wall on one border of our property and it was a lodging home for poison ivy. We also pulled it. I just put on gloves but it wasn't in bloom or anything when I did it. I managed to miss some but it hasn't spread much... that's a project I need to revisit soon... :rolleye2::rolleye2:

I agree with the pulling it out approach, I went one step further and washed with Tecnu after. It was the first time in my life that I didn't get one bump or itch. I use this stuff even if I think I went near poison ivy. Doing that, I haven't had it in a few years. Before using Tecnu, I would get it real bad two or three times a year, and that was with being careful.

You know you can use Boiling water, Vinegar and bleach to kill weeds. No limit from the lake edge for those.;)

Are you coming to the Forum Fest? If so would you think of bringing a couple of those suits for the raffle or something?

I got into some poison ivy earlier this summer and had to go to the doctor and there discovered that I had a secondary Staph infection on my face and had to take antibiotics and go back to be checked etc.

I am going to try to attack the poison ivy early next year before it gets going and try to get rid of it for good!!! I had pulled some earlier but this time was unaware that I was in it! I was pulling some strangle weeds down from some evergreen trees and did not see the poison ivy. Oh well I have had a problem with poison ivy only once before so pretty good record. That time the doctor at LRGH said that I had a pretty severe case and asked if I knew what poison ivy looked like! One has to be on the lookout for poison ivy and poison oak. One had five leaves I think? I thought it was only three so ......... Be careful out there.

However Bleach is a hypo-chlorate and will change the ph of your soil, so use with caution....
