Join us for an exciting Webcast in honor of Lakes Appreciation Month and learn about improving lakeshore habitat through better shoreline stewardship. EPA's first-ever assessment of the ecological condition of the nation’s lakes, the National Lakes Assessment, identifies poor lakeshore habitat and high levels of nutrients as leading stressors affecting the biological health of lakes. Experts from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Maine will share innovative local and statewide lakeshore protection initiatives, touching on both voluntary and regulatory measures. All those who care about lakes—lake and homeowner associations, natural resource agencies, state and local governments, anglers, realtors and others—are invited to learn about threats to our freshwater lakes and ways to make a difference. Webcast participants are eligible to receive a certificate for their attendance. Participants are encouraged to download resentations prior to the Webcast at

Instructors:
Fred Rozumalski, Landscape Ecologist, Barr Engineering Company in Minneapolis, MN, holds degrees in Horticulture, Ecology and Landscape Architecture. and has worked on projects involving native plant community restoration, stormwater harvesting, and sustainable landscape design. He strives to create diverse, ecologically sound and attractive landscapes that function to meet people’s needs and desires. Rozumalski has co-authored Lakescaping for Wildlife and Water Quality with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and is currently adjunct faculty in the department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Minnesota.
Liesa Lehmann, Waterway Protection Section Chief, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), has served as the Waterway Protection Section Chief for WDNR’s Bureau of Watershed Management since 2008. Liesa spent 10 years protecting lake, river and wetland resources by administering waterway and wetland permit requirements, followed by 5 years as a statewide waterway policy coordinator. In her current role, Liesa manages Wisconsin’s waterway and wetland permitting and shoreland zoning programs. She holds degrees from St. Olaf College and the University of Wisconsin- Madison, and is an avid paddler, hiker and gardener.
Barbara Welch, Outreach Coordinator, Land & Water Bureau, Maine Department of Environmental Protection, has worked as an aquatic biologist for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection for 36 years. For the past 20 years Barb has focused on education and outreach for water quality issues including lakes, streams, stormwater, and habitat protection. She coordinates LakeSmart, an awards program for lake friendly property management, and assists on other social marketing, behavior change campaigns.
The Watershed Academy
The Watershed Academy is a focal point in EPA’s Office of Water for providing training and information on implementing watershed approaches. The Academy sponsors live classroom training and online distance learning modules through the Watershed Academy Web at
