Did anyone else feel the earthquake today? I felt it at 1:45pm. The whole house swayed a little bit. Turns out this was a 5.5 magnitude quake, reportedly occuring at the Canadian border at 1:42pm this afternoon. So, it took 3 minutes to get to the lake. Here's the USGS report on it: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/dyfi/events/us/2010xwa7/us/index.html

I was resting in bed (been ill for a while), and something startled me awake. It didn't seem like thunder, and when I finished waking up, I didn't hear anything. That must have been what it was!

Holy cow! I totally felt it. Had no idea what it was. I was having lunch in Laconia and felt the booth shake. I looked behind me to see if someone was banging the back side of the booth, but I was sitting in a corner.

Thanks for the info.

The quake is now showing up on the TV news channels. It was actually centered just north of Ottawa. At Magnitude 5.5, this is classified as a Moderate earthquake, and we can expect to hear about damage in Canada. The lake is nearly 300 miles from the epi-center, so we won't see damage here. But the jolt was significant, nonetheless, even 300 miles away.

There are reports that it was felt as far west as Kentucky, Ohio, and Illinois; and as far south as Alabama.

I was in Belmont and didn't feel a thing. Maybe its because I was at the Belmont Range shooting high caliber pistols.

If you were having fun with a Desert Eagle, it may have been the source of the shaking...not the quake.

We were at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center when it happened - all the security doors, alarms, etc. went nuts. We happened to be in the children's hospital section of the building (CHaD) and at first I thought a Code Adam had been called. (Code Adam = lock down for a child abduction)

When we left an hour later, the security officers were still trying to fix the door... it wasn't going well.:)
