I'm glad you enjoy those dock spiders. I have never enjoyed them. They have frightened me my entire life. One of my buddies on the forum won't go in her boat if one of those ugly critters is in her boat. You are welcome to come and enjoy my spiders anytime, but I wish you would take them away.

I'm with Green's Basin Girl, dock spiders... ick! The only dock spider that I like to see is a dead one. Kill em all! :laugh:

The sizes of things don't really project well on the computer IMO. If someone hasn't seen these dock spiders some of them are HUGE! Spiders don't bother me that much, but I would rather not be near them.

Here is another picture I took yesterday. I don't know what it is about my shed but animals love it. Probably because there is a way underneath it in the back....

The local fox has three, at least I only saw three, kits living under there. I walked into the shed yesterday and heard the mother fox give out a few warning barks and a growl... As soon as I said to calm down she stopped....That is when they all came out and started playing in my yard....:D

Is that spider incapacitated in some way? I've never seen one that would sit on someone's hand.

(NOT—at least, when I was around! :laugh:)

However, I did spend a second of sheer terror when one had hidden within a dockline. I'd picked up the dockline, and it chose that second to run up my arm!

(But we have even-larger "shed" spiders in Central Florida which are similar—somewhat heavier and somewhat faster—and whose eight eyes glow turquoise in the beam of a flashlight :eek:)

Besides docks, those spiders use all of our near-shorelines. I've often wondered what these dock spiders subsist on to keep so many around (mostly, out of sight). Last week, for the first time, I saw one chomping on a recently-emerged dragonfly nymph. :(

The only hunting I do in New Hampshire is on these spiders, and it's with a can of hornet spray :devil: . (And you do need use some stealth to "zap" one).

My favorite "critter" is the chipmunk: with a little training using sunflower seeds, I've had them bounding up to me at the very end of the dock.

(Much to the delight and amazement of our passing Bass fishermen!) :laugh:

Down here in southern NH.

These 7 pups were our residents last year. Most are gone, but some of them are still sticking around as juveniles. We only see them occasionally. Don't worry, the lawn mower noise will scare 'em away. I was able to walk right up to these guys. They were curious, but not scared. We were more worried about mom and dad.:eek:

That is a great pic. But 7 Kits. Wow that Mama fox must have had some labor time with that crew. Keeping all of them fed must have been a chore as well.:eek:
