'Center Harbor, N.H. A retreat house for meditation and prayer.' I know this place as the Red Hill Inn but it has a colorful history. A google search for date reference points finds the ordination of a La Salette brother to the priesthood in 1954. At some point it became Belknap College which closed in 1974. Google leads you to an alumni page. Students used to live throughout the community, some on Lake Shore Drive which they referred to as L.S.D. (Those crazy college kids!) More recently it was the Red Hill Inn (and restaurant) overlooking Squam Lake. A beautiful home filled with antiques and wonderful food. We drove all the way from Alton one evening in my brand new 1994 Jeep. As the Inn it had a stone veranda along the front where you could do lunch. The french doors to the right led to a greenhouse room. The Inn is now closed but the building is home to the New Hampshire Music Festival. Here's a link to their web page. The house is pictured as it looks today in a thumbnail in the left margin. http://www.nhmf.org/

I have been corrected elsewhere on-line. To set the record straight, the building shown above is not the same one that was the Red Hill Inn / Belknap College / and now home to NH Music Festival. Two different buildings that look remarkably alike. BTW - NH Music Festival is building a new concert hall next to their Center Harbor property that will look like a huge barn from the outside. McD
