Is this a walk-through tunnel for the residents on the Boulevard to get to Paugus Bay?

RG:

I think it is a storm drain. My folks owned a resrt on the eirs Blvd. back in the 1960's and you had to cross busy RTE 3 (Weirs Blvd.) to get to the waterfront. This didn't help business at all. I don't know of anyplace that ever had a tunnel walk-through to get to their waterfront.

No, it is not a walk-through although it could be. We were told by the previous owners that the land we recently purchased was originally farmland and pastures and that this tunnel was created for a means for the cattle to get to the water to drink. It's really cool and, as I understand from a local history book, only one of three on the lake. The bats like it alot! Hope this clears up the mystery.

We purchased this property this last winter and based on information from the previous owner this passageway was used by the cows, there is much pasture land behind us, to get access to the lake to drink. Based on a book by a local historian this is 1 of 3 such passageways on the lake. We have discussed using this for our own access to our water front as the traffic on Weirs Boulevard can be pretty intense at times.

P.S. Check out the car, it is my neighbors a 1928 coupe.

Hope this helps,

Bill
