Talking The Official ForumFest IV Thread

The Committee has decided on

Saturday September 8, 2007, 2-4 pm
at Cate Park in Wolfeboro, NH for
ForumFest IV.

If someone comes up with an indoor place...even at the last minute.. we will consider changing the location.

We will be conducting a raffle as usual. Quilt Lady has chosen the charity (since she donates the most valuable raffle item, it is only fitting that she pick the cause this year.)

If you want to donate an item, we will be collecting the list later in the season. Additionally we would like to offer tickets for sale to those who cannot make the event... details later... or if you want to volunteer to be take care of this part of the raffle please volunteer as I am the wrong person to do it as many will attest.

We also plan on a PepperFest this year... to celebrate the season's opening of Waldo Peppers... details in another thread when we know the opening date.

Any other Fests that people want to plan....Go for it!!!!!

IG and the ForumFest Committee!!!

Default and the winner is . . .

This years FF4 quilt is a bit of a departure for me. It is an "art quilt" suitable for hanging on a wall and is approximately 42 inches square. It contains images from around the lake taken from some of the postcards posted on this website. I will bring it with me to "PepperFest" for a preview . . . even if it isn't completed. Once it is done, DRH will take a picture of it and post it for all to see.

Unless we have a major disaster this year, I would like to chose the New Hampshire Humane Society in Laconia to receive the proceeds from the quilt raffle. I am a big animal lover and would like to support these good people in their efforts to help homeless animals. My idea of heaven would be to have a cat in every window . . . and live in a glass house.

Having a date selected this far ahead, we should have an excellent turnout this year. Make your plans now!!!

I'm looking into LSP Pavilion as a backup. The Saturday date may be a problem.

Other possibile sites are being "talked to". stay tuned..

The great thing is the date is set far enough in advance to let folks save the date, and plan all those raffle prizes they will donate!

Quilt Lady
The charity you picked is purr-fect....

Default Three cheers for Quilt Lady

Quilt Lady - Excellent choice for donation this year, NHHS. If you haven't already contacted them about this, the person to speak with is Marylee Gorham. She will be soooooo thrilled. I know I am and I know all the babies at the shelter will be too. Thank you so much for choosing NHHS.

Red face Can't wait!!!!

So glad to see a date planned for the forum. This will be my first attendance and I am so looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible.

I LOVE Quilt Lady's suggestion of the Humane Society for the donation. I would like to make another suggestion. How about the Loon Conservation Center?

Default Just might make it....

Hey Folks!

My wife and I just celebrated our 1yr anniversary and bought a new house. We close next week and I'm ITCHING to get back to the lake. I might try to make this work. Here's hoping the schedule works out, if not, I'll just have to send CSUhockeyMom in my place again!

ForumFest is the informal name we've given to what has become an annual get-together of winnipesaukee.com Forum members. The event itself has kind of evolved over time, and each year the turnout seems to grow. ForumFest has become a great time/place to meet other Forum members, match faces to screen names and avatars, and have a great time chatting with other Lake Winnipesaukee lovers. We usually have a raffle to support a local cause, and Quilt Lady's quilt is one of the raffle items.

Here's a link to lots of pictures that have been taken at the three previous ForumFests: ForumFest Photos

IG, Because of the Saturday date.. LSP would not be avaiable

Might be a good idea to get some other "indoor" sites suggested and checked out.

Also... let's start the "Raffle Prize" posting... (I'm still working on my donation )

What if the date was changed to a Sunday. Would the Pavilion at LSP be available? Why fight success? Anything less than the LSP Pavilion, would be a downer, IMHO.

Bill,

I haven't looked into the Sunday date... seems like most folks prefer the Saturday date,, LSP is out for that day.

These folks have a good sense of what will work.

PS... I think the event will be great no matter where it is held.. but an open park may make any wireless "broadcast" difficult. (I'll bet LG can make something work!)

Default 24 days and counting . . .

It's time to bump this thread back to the top again. If you want to see some REAL celebrities, you have to come to the next ForumFest. You will be able to meet such famous people as Island Girl (of photo fame), history maven - McDude, our social director - Rattlesnake Gal, the infamous Pepper and many others. Who knows, there could even be a special guest star! Be there or be square!

And while we are on the topic . . . it looks like only SteveA and I are bringing things for the raffle. We need stuff! Island Girl will be making a list. If there isn't any interest in a raffle this year, I'm sure I can easily sell the quilt to raise money for the New Hampshire Humane Society. Anyone interested in donating things for the raffle? We're waiting to hear from you.

We will see some of you at ForumFest IV! And we'll talk about those who don't show up!

Last year we had a slow scan video feed running from the fest. Its possible to do that again but as SteveA pointed out, it requires an internet connection. We also need an upload spot on the forum server for the camera to sent its files (FTP) and some 'skins' to go around the video frame that people download. Are there any web page designers out there?

I may have a conflict though. If contingency plans are needed because I can't attend, we'll call for a volunteer to take over operating the camera. First, step one: get it working.

Default Options

Wolfeboro is a bit far of a trip for me, but next time I'm there I'll look for wifi in the park. The camera works with ethernet or modem options, but I no longer have an ISP to dial-in to. The cell phone approach might work if there is a signal and somewhere to call. The camera uploads about 540 kilobits for each frame. If we're limited to a speed of 14Kb, we can still get one frame every 30 seconds. That's OK - up to one frame per minute is usually acceptable.

I just did an upload test and got over 600K.. guess that should be enough for you. I have a router that the camera could attach to...

Is there sometime before then that we can test this?

Where are you Lakegeezer?

Default As usual

I'm not going to be able to make as my company outing is on this date. I would love to come but the grandkids will be upset if they don't make their annual pilgrimmage to Canobie Lake.

If there is a rain date, then I might be able to make it.

Default OK... here is my raffle prize

See this post...

http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...+winnipesaukee

see Post 20...

My donation to the raffle is an orginal 1936 edition of " Three Centuries on Winnipesaukee" that I won on Ebay...very rare.

It is in near perfect shape... As many of you have noticed.. Dianne and I are very big supporters of the NH Humane Society. So while I hate to part with it.. the cause is worth it.

Default Third year in a row

Ok, one of these years perhaps ForumFest will be held on a day that doesn't conflict with the BC football schedule.

I know that "The Eagle" has sworn them off. But I can't, and I work at the games.

So, once again, I'll be there in spirit but not body.

I hope it goes well!

Since I gave up my BC Season tickets, after 27 years, (Rather than pay BC the [Extortion] REQUIRED $1000 per ticket "Donation" to the Flynn Fund) I won't be going to ANY BC football games, and upon checking my Date book, September 8th is BLANK! This will be the first time, I will actually get to meet all the folks that came to support the "Flotilla of Flags," in 2002, and all the Guys and Gals, with whom I've been talking all these years. You'll have to look to find me, though, I will NOT be wearing the Eagle Costume! I'm EXCITED about finally getting to meet some of you! I hope this will be the biggest gathering to date!

Default To "The Eagle"...

Off topice, but to The Eagle..Amen on giving up the the TIX. Funny what happens when "they are lucky to have you" turns into "you are lucky to have them". What they are doing down there is shameful. Gave ours up also...after years of buying the seats and "donating" an arm and a leg to park on Shea Field. Had enough....

Default Message from NHHS

I wanted to pass along the message I received from Marylee at NHHS with some photos of the Pet's of the week. I also want everyone out there to know they are doing an absolutely wonderful thing by supporting the NHHS with this years Forum Fest and we have our wonderful friend Quilt Lady to thank. I'm thinking I can make it this year and I will see what we can contribute to the raffle as well.

What would you folks think about the shelter bringing some of their adoptable pets to the forum? This is something the shelter commonly does for events they participate in. Thought I'd throw this out there and see if anyone is looking to add a new and wonderful fur baby to their family. I'll wait for a response before talking with the shelter about this.

Lisa
Thanks for letting me know.

terms of help with animals how are no longer wanted,

Default Going to try to make it

Well Hopefully all though this has not been an active year on the Forum for me I might just make it to Forum fest. It appears that the kaos that has been my life this year might just clear up enough to stop buy and say hi.... and finally put some names with Faces.....

Default Smitty1

Last year there was a "presale" for tickets that was set up by Pepper.

I sure the committee that is doing the event this year will announce a way for folks that can't attend to purchase tickets.

Default Less than 2 weeks to go!

Last years "pre-buy" of raffle tickets was handled by Pepper. She used Waldo Pepper's Post Office box as the mailing address. I believe no one has offered a P.O. box for this years raffle and I, for one, am not willing to post my home address online for the world to see. Call me crazy but there are far too many weirdos out there (you know who you are).

Any other suggestions?

That is a lovely offer... I think it could be a problem for anyone allergic or afraid of animals... and also in a public place. If you want to bring along pictures and descriptions that would be great!!!

Just my opinion

I think IG's right ... it's a very generous offer but photos and descriptions might work better.

Outlaw - any chance Marylee might like to stop by and say hello?

I have a PO Box at Weirs Beach that we can use for this but first we should decide how to do it.

Should we post a list of items so people could send their choice with their donation?

Shouldn't the quilt be $5 a ticket and the smaller items less?

Once these details are worked out we can start a new thread for the raffle and publish the PO Box address.

By the way, I'll donate 2 Destination Winnipesaukee DVDs and 2 Bizer charts.

Once again, timing is everything, and it's usually bad in my case. Just got back from the Lake last evening, and returning on 9/14 for the boat show weekend.

Have fun!

I will be there and I will have an appropriately themed shirt and fleece throw for the raffle.

Food - I was planning to bring something sweet - cookies, brownies... but if something else is needed let me know. What about paper products? soft drinks/water?

Yes.. I think we need to make a list of the raffle prizes. I'll try to go thru the several threads and get it up tonight.

Yes... we need a place for folks to mail a check, made out to the New Hampshire Humane Society. They should specify the prize they want the tickets entered on. (example would be.. 1/2 on the quilt, 1/2 on the Sunset Bob pictures) IMHO the tickets should stay $1 each.. those that want to "load up" on a particular prize can control the amount that way. It would also make the "ticket selling" proccess easier with a single priced ticket.

OK then, Mee znd I will be bringing 2 tables, 7 layer Mexican dip and chips, chocolate-chip cookies, some soda and water and a raffle item - The Nippy Canoe (pic to follow but if you recall last years basket, you get the idea).

I think we need some raffle tickets, some garbage/recyclables collection capability and a bucket/jar for the drawings. Other soft drinks might be good too.

Default Ode to the Webmaster . . .

Oh great and wise Webmaster
Time is running short
SteveA compiled a list
And we're ready to report.

An address is what we need
For those from far away
To purchase raffle tickets
For ForumFest IV day.

We'll work out the fine details
As the time grows near
PM those whose help you need
And we'll be there, no fear.

Thank you, oh great and all powerful Webmaster!

Default Current List

Here is the current list of raffle items and food/misc party items. If you are sending in a check for the raffle... please indicate how many tickets for each item by number... each ticket is $1 and you can designate as may tickets as you want to any items... If you send $25... you can put a few towards the quilt... a few towards other items.. or even 1 for each item!

Once our Webmaster gives an address to send the checks... Go for it!!!!

Make the check out to the New Hampshire Humane Society.

http://www.rattlesnakecam.com/ffiv/ffivraffle.pdf

Keep those items coming... we could use paper plates, bowls, and forks, knives, spoons, napkins.. etc. name tags.

If you have never been to a ForumFest before... come along... you are all invited...

If you start a new thread with the list of items, the address and some instructions I'll stick it so it remains at the top.

Default Raffle thread

Webmaster: I created a new raffle thread for you to make sticky, as you suggested.

To the rest of you: The new thread is for keeping track of raffle items and to give info on buying raffle tickets... as usual most of us will be buying our tickets at ForumFest IV.

Oh man .... if we're going that way I wanna see Pepper and the Chiles do a song and dance routine. Then Misty Blue can recite a stirring poem of life on the wild blue seas. Rose can do an educational speech on weather forecasting. Islander and ITD can re-enact the Weekend Update debate skit from SNL (back when it was funny) and DRH and QL can ...

Crap there's that beeping again. Time for my meds. I've forgotten, should I take the red pill or the blue pill ....

Default I'll miss this year's FFIV

My job now is driving a limosine for Mohegan Sun. I have to work that Saturday and Sunday, so I will miss this year's event. Too bad, for I had such a great time at last years event at LSP. I'll miss SteveA's chilli and his chowda, if he brings it.

You all have a great time.

Default Three days to go!!!!

Since no one else has come forward, I will volunteer to sell the raffle tickets again this year. I will bring my own table and chair. While I may not be able to circulate, I will still be able to meet everyone.

If our great and wise Webmaster can get the mail orders to me as early as he can on Saturday, I will deal with those as well.

It looks like the weather is going to be fine.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at ForumFest IV!!!

Hi

I always wanted to get to ForumFest but it didn't work out.

Just found out I can be there this year. Do I need to sign up or something?

I have an 8 ft folding table I can bring if needed.

I was just checking the forecast for Sunday and there's a 40% chance of rain. So what's the plan if it looks bad come Friday or Sat or ??

EDIT : As I was just informed, it's Sat this year. Sat looks good right now.

Default Name Tags Needed

I don't know who usually brings them... but we need some stick on name tags and a marker or two... They will be needed early... about half hour before the event begins.

Volunteers????

Don the Webmaster put a notice on the Winnipesaukee.com home page advertising the fest.

The 4th Annual ForumFest IV will be held on Saturday September 8, 2007 from 2-4 pm at Cate Park in Wolfeboro, NH. ForumFest IV attendees have a great day. Wish I could join you, but stuck here in CT for the weekend.
Just remember to obey the speed limits, pay your property taxes, eat at Pepper's, buy your meat at Wining Butcher, don't swim in cyanobacteria, give the right of way to those in the traffic circle, and for God's sake watch out for moose.

Stay safe and have a great day. See you on the web.

Default Murphy's Law

Sorry folks for the lack of pictures from the ForumFest. The wireless connection I had staged with last week was missing. When I spoke with the provider, they told me it had failed yesterday and the DSL modem was gone for repair. UGH! I found another wireless network, but it required a browser login to work. I created an account and had it working off my laptop, but couldn't get the camera to log-in, or connect through my PC. It was a nice ForumFest, and I'm sure there will be lots of pictures posted.

Thumbs up The aftermath ....

Just got back from FFIV and wanted to extend kudos to those who worked to make it happen again this year. Cheers to those who donated their gifts and thanks to those who bid on them. Alas the live link .... wasn't, so as the old saying goes, "You had to be there". We were blue that Misty couldn't make it and that Grant, once again, was unable to attend (who started this stuff anyway ?). Pepper and her Chilies were also MIA. Methinks we should all go to Lowes and stage a protest !

I'd like to thank the RGs for the coasters which we'll put to use tonight. I like to thank Webmaster D for the DVD and chart and Sunset Bob for the beautiful photos. My guests also extend their thanks to SB and ghfromaltonbay for their pictures. Mostly I should probably thank "Mee" for her absence since that seems to have brought me good luck !

Lastly I think our beneficiaries have something to announce. They say, as best as I can type it; "Woof woof, meow, meow, woof, meow, WOOF !"

If RG could make it up all the stairs she would thank you for the amazing nippy canoe. T shirt from McDude will be a great conversation starter, (Like RG needs one). The wonderful Lake W throw will keep us warm as we wait for Ice out.

Oh, here comes RG and wants to say something.
"Hic, thhhannnkssss fur da wundrpul nipppppps."

Thanks all RG2

Anybody have the phone number for Betty Ford?

Thumbs up New friends, old friends...pleasant memories!

First, thank you rrr for the chance to win that beautiful shirt you donated...trouble is my wife confiscated it from me as soon as I got back to camp!

Got to see my ol' buddy 'Mac again, it's always a joy to chew the fat with him! And two folks I've waited a number of years to meet and shake hands, Don & DRH, are just as lively a couple of memorable characters as they portray themselves here on the Web!!!

I also was rewarded with a lengthy and intelligent discussion of the issues with Bear Islander...worth the trip in itself.

And it was also fantastic to see the Skipper once again, looking forward to your pictures.

And to everyone else that mingled and shared a moment or two of small talk, you all reminded me of why I am so addicted to this site and the memorable cast of caring people that daily fill these pages.

And yes, I was truly disappointed that Islander didn't stop by...it would have been fun to put a face and share conversation with such a passionate debater.

Finally Don, thank you once again for being the one that in the end makes this all possible.

It was a super way to spend an afternoon in what is truly one of the most beautiful spots in God's country!

Default Nice to see everyone.

I made it despite the rain that foiled my boating plan. I jumped in the truck and took the southern route. Nice to meet Skip and see my friend RG. Nice to meet many others also. Finally got to meet Don, and see who the hardworking soul is that keeps this going. Also nice to chat with Bizer. Wish more could have made it. Didn't see APS, although Skip and I kept looking over the grassy knoll!!!

Default ForumFest's Donation to NH Humane Society

The attendees at ForumFest IV all had a great time, and we succeeded in raising $586 for the NH Humane Society. Marylee Gorham, NH Humane Society's Fundraising, Membership and Volunteer Director, attended and graciously accepted our donation.

Here's a photo of Quilt Lady presenting our donation to Marylee.

Sorry about that Goodsk8s, I retrieved all the mail from my PO box this morning and got one of those pick-up slips for your envelope, which wouldn't fit in the box. When I tried to retrieve it I was told that Express Mail items are only held for 5 days and then returned to the sender. Since I only empty that box every few weeks or so I missed the 5 day deadline.

Default Great Time - Nice People !

FF IV was lots of fun.. and it's wonderful to put some "faces' with the folks we chat with all year.

Nice job IG!

I'm sure all of the "furry ones" at LRHS appreciate all of the funds raised from the raffle.

Hermit Cover.. I checked all of the records at Ebay.. it appears that you have set a new record for winning a bid after the deadline.

SunSet Bob.. The loons have been added to our Sunset Bob collection!

Thank you to Sunset Bob for the TWO beautiful pictures I won.

Thank you to Al for the CD's.

Thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Hermit Cover for the autographed copy of "Memories of New Hampshire Lakes and Mountains" and the Winni stickers!

Default Verklempt

Mr. Rose and I had a great time at ForumFest. Sorry we couldn't stay longer, especially since we weren't there when the raffle was held. But I got so verklempt just reading that I had won the quilt, it's probably a good thing I wasn't there to flood the place with tears of joy.

I can't thank Quilt Lady enough for creating, with DRH's help, such a beautiful piece of art. And thanks also to all of you who helped organize ForumFest...we hope to return next year if we can.

What a wonderful and gracious group of people you all are.
