Default Boat overturns

This link from WMUR says a boat overturned this morning on Winni with 4 people thrown into the water.
It couldn't have been a GFBL boat that caused it could it?

If that happened three weeks ago, the ending could have been more tragic. I'm glad to see all survived.

Doubtful as I find it hard to believe water over the bow would swamp a GFBL. Though maybe if it was an infant GFBL, just out of the nest ...

1) All six of these AP accounts say the same thing, and include two key words: "swamped", and "overturned". I'd look for the words "ejected" and "flipped"—then think GFBL.

2) Most everybody out there—especially on yesterday's rainy Monday—are in outboard boats made of aluminum. (And are seriously busy "drowning worms").

During these past several days, there couldn't have been but a handful of GFBLs on the entire lake in this cold/rainy weather, and certainly not during Monday's even-worse weather.

Nearby communities have received frost warnings for this Tuesday morning!

Todays Citizen Online shows a pic of MP towing the boat.... My guess is with 4 guys and thier gear the boat was way overloaded....

Its a good thing they were wearing PFD's....

Taken from said Citizen article:
"The Marine Patrol says the boat overturned just before 9 a.m., after running into strong winds and rough water that came over the bow. Winds gusts at the time were recorded in excess of 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service automatic weather data station at the Laconia Airport."

In other news, winnfabs has announced they plan to propose a law limiting wind speeds on Winni to 10 mph during the day and 5 mph at night.

I think that bill should also include limiting rough water. How about limiting knuckleheads who get in over their heads in too small a boat.Oh that's right, that would include all the canoes and kayaks that account for most of the boating deaths each year.Actually,I have a FEAR of small boats capsizing so I believe these should not be allowed on bodies of water.
So sorry,I couldn't resist.

Just another accident in one of those darn GSAS boats... (go slow act stupid)...

Hmmm, haven't heard of any speed related accidents yet but the 20mph and under class has racked up a few!

Is it true all three guys were Mainers working for White Mountain Cable doing some cable work over on Bear Island? Heck, probably just looking for a way to take the day off and spend it at the Fun Spot bingo hall and affiliated massage parlor.

Nope, your speculation is not true according to the fine folks at the Citizen.

The three workers dried themselves off after being rescued and went back to work.

The story and associated picture of the small aluminum boat can be seen HERE!

Many small boats will capsize after swamping. Also 4 people on a boat that small, reacting in an excited manner to the water coming in, could result in the boat flipping. Good thing they could swim.

The good news is they are now eligible for an honorable mention in the Darwin Awards.

Actually it's internet access we want.

The cable company didn't want to come to Bear. The battle took 4 years!

I doubt they will string it to other islands unless you make them. I lined up ten customers within a cable mile, according to their contract with the town that forced them to hook us up.
