Default primary care doc recommendation

I searched the site first to find if this question has been asked recently - could not find anything.
I am 63 yr old man in excellent health and very active - need to find a new primary care doc after moving from out of state and no longer wanting to make the trek back to our former home to see my doctor. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We live in Moultonborough but I will drive an hour for a decent doctor who is focused on keeping his/her patients well. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Default PCP in the area.

That's a good one! I move back into the area about 7 years ago. My former PCP was in Chelmsford and was a damn good one. Unfortunately he is not on the Anthem provider list and I had to find a new PCP. After three local PCPs, two at the Laconia Clinic, one lost his license for unlawful prescribing pain killers. I settle with Dr Misiewicz at the Meredith Rotary.
He is a great guy, knowledgeable and will refer you to Concord or Elliot Hospital for services. His office staff is 'a little lazy' and may have to follow up on future visits or prescriptions. I'm use to having the office calling me.

According to Anthem, he is accepting new patients.

I see Dr Julie Furlan in Moultonborough- she is fantastic and takes her time with the annual physical, etc. The practice is affiliated with Huggins https://www.hugginshospital.org/Phys...-Medicine.aspx

My doctor is fantastic but he has sausage fingers. I could never recommend him to anyone over 45.

After having a doc with similar, I give you yet another reason to see Dr Furlan!

Default Primary Care Doctor in Lakes Region

Dr Mary Claire Paicopolis in Gilford is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. She is VERY intense about her patients' health and VERY thorough. I have used her for the 3 years we have permanently lived in the Lakes Region and could not be more pleased. My wife and numerous friends use her as well. It is sometimes hard to get an appointment but it is well worth any wait. She gives out her personal email so you can contact her with any immediate problems -- and she responds by email as well. Also usually calls you personally with any lab results, sometimes even on the weekends. A rarity in these times. She also refers out to excellent other specialists.

Default Primar Care Doctor

Second on Dr Mary-Claire Paicopolis in Gilford. Takes extremely good care of her patients and follow up is thorough. My husband and I are both patients as are other family members. Wonderful office staff as well.

Lazy is too kind! I would avoid this office, just had two family members have bad experiences, no one is reading the lab , Radiology reports, following up on referrals etc...

We now travel to Concord.

Default Doctors Rated

This is a good site to check when looking for a Doctor. Easy to sort by location and specialties. Not perfect, but helpful.

Great conversation on the various options with Primary Care doctors...

Similar in nature, if you find a Primary Care practice that you like, odds are their admitting privileges are at LRGH.

It's great to have a doctor you like, but if you need or require hospital related service, that doctor you love will eventually have to turn you over to their care.

I've had no issues with LRGH, but I know others that live up here and prefer to travel to Concord and use Primary Care groups related to Concord Hospital....just in case they need specialty care, the specialist is practicing at that hospital.

That's my 2¢ .....

Default good point re hospital referral

Good point Bruinsfan. I generally take the position it is better to driver further for specialized care under the assumption that the closer you get to metro areas the more options you have for specialists and hospitals. I don't mind finding a primary care doc in Concord area if by association I can get to a good hospital. So if i am willing to travel to Concord, who is a good primary care doc in the area?

Concord Internal Medicine is great. That is where I go. If you have an appointment you better be on time. You will not be waiting to see your doctor. The office is very prompt. I use to go to an office in Meredith. My appointments always started very late. In Concord you can always get in to see someone also if you are sick. Last fall I was very sick so I went to the closest emergency room- LRGH. I was there for 7 hours. I was totally misdiagnosed. When i questioned the diagnosis the nurses did not even know what was written on my discharge sheet. Anyhow that is a long long story. The hospital ended up having to apologize to me and correct my diagnosis in my medical record. I will continue to travel to Concord for my health care.

I have been a patent of Internal medicine at CHP for twenty five years. I have always found them to be spot on with their diagnosis very efficient.

Default My Decision

As RLW noted, I posted a similar question:

http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...ghlight=doctor

Although Carolyn Crosby was not accepting new patients, I decided to go to Abigail Olden, a PA, in this same practice. I found her to be very thorough and so far so good.

I also had contacted Dr. Conkling's office, but thought that it might be more difficult to get appointments with her.

As far as Joseph A. Misiewicz, MD, he is my 83 year old mother's doctor. I find him to be very attentive and thorough patiently listening and addressing all concerns and asking what I feel are pertinent questions.

Hope this helps... I appreciate Forum members helping each other!!

Default PCP in Wolfeboro

I am also looking for a new PCP in the Wolfeboro area associated with Huggins Hospital. I googled this question and found over 20 Internest Medical Docrors in the Wolfeboro Huggins Medical building and surrounding area.

Does anyone have experience with any of these Doctors. Any suggestions as to how to find the right PCP? How did you find your PCP?

Thanks.
