Purple Thing-a-ma-bobs on the Neck Rd.

I noticed these purple triangular shaped thing-a-ma-bobs hanging from the trees going down the Neck Rd. the other day. Anyone know what their purpose is?

They may be phermone traps that are hung by the state or arborist to monitor the activity of the Emerald Ash Borer. Here in Pa we use them and they are like sticky traps. The Emerald Ash Borer is a really bad insect that could wipe out the Ash trees on the east coast if left uncontrolled.

Hope they don't get over my way. We have a cluster of 3 enormous ash trees and they are really beautiful. I'd sure hate to lose them.

Anyone know what the leaf of an ash tree looks like? There are a few trees I have that some leaves are turning already. They are small only maybe 10-20 years old.

Thats exactly what they are, traps for the Emerald Ash Borer. They are set all over the east coast by the USFS and the state foresters. In Worcester, MA there are also long black traps hanging for the Asian Longhorned Beetle another invasive woodland pest. Don't move firewood, buy local.
