Default 2014 (and later) Gasoline Road Tax Refund

Don't forget! 'They' increased the road tax on gasoline last year as of July 1st, 2014.

If you are applying for a rebate for the gasoline used on your boat, be sure to have the new form dated 08/14 (or newer).

You can download the latest form via this link:

http://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/a...ents/RT123.pdf

The 'new' form includes columns for calculating taxes for both the $0.18 and $0.222 per gallon tax rates.

A sign of spring... filling out the road toll refund form.

Dang it! Sent mine in last week and completely missed that. Now will just have to wait to see how DMV handles it ...

Luckily I went online and printed out the new form. I have sent mine in. I hope I did everything else correctly.

sent me copies of the receipts and the new form with a letter reminding you that the gas tax increase in July. Love full service marinas.

Does everyone send 'originals' of your receipts or copies of your receipts?

I've been sending my 'originals'.

This year I was thinking of sending in a copy of my receipts, but I'm not sure if 'originals' are required or if a photo copy is ok.

I'd rather not have the form rejected as it must be filed by April 15th, so that may not give me much time if a rejection letter comes close to or after the 4/15 date.

It depends on how many gallons you burn.

For gas purchased before July, the rate is $0.18 per gallon. For gas purchased after July 1st, you can get back $0.222 per gallon.

So how many gallons do you use per season?

Plus you also need something like $10 (?) in tax minimum to even apply for the refund.

Between the boat and jet ski, I usually get back around $55 each year.

For us it usually runs about a tank full of gas for one of the cars. Enough to make it worthwhile.

I sent mine in and had the money back in about two weeks. I only submit for the boat and got back $55. I get my gas at Channel Marine and they have a great system for saving your receipts for the season and sending them to you when the season is over. Easy, no lost receipts.

Same here. I do everything including gas with Andrew's Marina. Debbie takes care of it all. Keeps track of all receipts. Easy peasy, couldn't be simpler!

To answer my own question I called the Road Toll Bureau, the were very helpful.

Their answer was that 'They prefer original reciepts, but do not require them, in case you need your original reciepts for tax records or other reasons."

Default Deadline is April 15

Don't forget that you only have until April 15 to send in for 2014 taxes. I was a day or two late last year, and got denied! Also, as others mentioned, there is a new form this year which itemizes gallons for the old and the new tax rate. Given how VERY specific they are with what you need to do and when, it wouldn't surprise me if claims made on the old form are denied.

I hadn't received my refund from the state yet, so I called today to check if they lost it, or to see if there was something else going on.

They said they are just about done processing the refund applications they received for February. The fuel tax change this year caused them to need a lot of extra time with each application, so it's slowing them way down (PIA for them)!

So if you haven't received yours yet, be patient.

Default Deadline

Yes. The filing deadline is April, 15. The related statute does not specify a date for the refund to be issued. I always check the block to donate (tax deductible) my refund to go to lake preservation (milfoil control) so I don't worry about the actual refund. You can do this with all or a portion of your refund. If you don't file at all, the refund goes to the General Fund, and a portion of that goes to Fish and Game. No tax deduction for you.
