Contractor for a mooring
Well after buying a new boat and being much more concerned about protecting it, I am concidering applying for a permit for a mooring and if I am approved putting one out. My delemia at the momment is I don't have the man power to lift a cement block of any size and get it in place. So I am hoping that all of you can help me with names of contractors that will place moorings and maybe even help with the permitting process....
Thanks in advance

Mooring Process
I just went through the whole process -- permitting and installation.
The permit paperwork is extensive. You have to show deed language that describes your lot, including reference to the amount of shorefront. In my case, I had to go back three transfers to get a deed that had the description. I happened to have copies of those deeds, but if you don't, you'll have to make a trip to the Registry. You have to write a justification as to why a mooring is needed. You have to include names and contact information for your neighbors. You have to include a diagram that includes your neighbors' docks, moorings, etc.. After I sent in the paperwork, it took about a month for the approval. They did a site visit before approval. After you get the approval, you have to send in the approval letter and a check to get the decal. Mine was installed by a neighbor, who did an excellent job. He uses granite rock and very sturdy hardware. He is a diver, so he will also do spring/fall installation/removal. I don't think he will do the permit for you, although he would probably help with locating the mooring for the diagram. LI - if you email me through the forum link, I'll send you his contact info. He is close to Long Island. |
