Default For Bear Island South and Cooper...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Default Thank You

Thanks to all for the well wishes, she was very special to us.

This is our first weekend back without her, there is a huge void not having her around. Just seeing her tennis ball on the porch was emotional for us.

Our other dog Gus misses her, you can get the sense that he is looking around for her, they have been together for 8 1/2 years, I think it is confusing to him.

The rainbow bridge poem is very similiar to the book "Dog Heaven", we just purchased the book for our 6 year old, it has great illustrations and it helped us explain to him that Cooper is in a happy place.

One more picture to share, one of our favorites.

Default New Winni Dog

After much consideration we decided we needed to have have two dogs in our household, it just didn't feel right with one.
This is Riley, the newest member to our clan, she is a 10 week old female black lab.
Gus wasn't sure of her at first, but has now taken her under his wing and is teaching her how to be a water dog...she went for her first swim today.

Talking Makes Your Heart Melt!

Riley is absolutely gorgeous! In the last picture it looks like she is trying to imitate Gus' greying beard. Nothing helps heal the heart like a new pup. Enjoy the fun, I am so very happy for you and your family. Guster sure is going to have fun being a big brother and teacher!

Thanks for the pic!!

And I agree. Two pups are better than one.

I want 8 goldens but my wife says we'll never be invited anywhere...probably true but that's something I could live with.

Good luck with Riley!!

You are so right, it has been a joy to have her around. Gus has already taught her the art of begging.

It is very true.

Funny story. My SIL went into a store today with her little dog in her arms and the lady told her if the manager was there she wouldn't be able to bring the dog in. My SIL told her she wasn't a dog, she was a princess. I am still laughing about her quick answer. I am going to use it next time!

Default New Labradoodle puppy

Not sure if I am savvy enough to post an image, but our 2-Siamese cat household acquired a 3 month old Labradoodle over the weekend. Good grief. I am basically a cat person, but my husband wanted a "buddy" ... so here we go. Our new family member (Cosmo) is very laid back, affectionate guy. We're working on the housetraining - and he is terribly smart. The cats seem to be doing okay.

What is it about Labs and recliners? My two have to share the recliner with whomever is sitting there. I had to get an extra large one, recliner that is, to accomodate us all.

Cosmo looks happy in his new home.

donnamatrix-- I will be anxious to meet Cosmos when you are out in the boat. Maybe he will learn to float and he can join me by my raft. I have plenty of extra floats. He is a beautiful dog.

Default Dogs are messy!

Hi GBG: Jerry wanted a pal. Now he has one. Don't look at the total chaos in the background of the photo... dogs create havoc. Cosmo is a nice guy, and he hasn't even tried to chase or eat the cats. Amen!!!

You should see him with my buddy's 5 pound dog and Steeler's new "girl", Athena (our 5 month old kitten). No worries!

Seriously though, socializing dogs when they are young is the key.

Default My Two Lake Lovers

It's nearly impossible to keep these two out of the Lake. Reilly (9.5 yrs) still catches some good air retrieving the Frisbee. Lucy (4) prefers the ball, and will go all day long. They, like me, are lucky enough to have spent all their years on the Lake, and love it just as much.

oh my god that is so beautiful, we lost our Maxwell the day after Thanksgiving 3 years ago it was the hardest day of my life and many days after. my wife and i don't have children but we have 3 kids and they are 3 Labs. they are our lives. when i saw the picture of the rainbow bridge i started to weep, i actually built a bridge in my backyard were our Maxwell use to run out to the back permiter of the fence and chase the deer or turkeys. that was his spot and is today. Dogs and family pets are the truelly the greatest gift to our spirits and well being. take care

Default Dogs enjoy the lake too

Reading through some of the earlier posts from those who don't love dogs, I am reminded of our Hunter, who came into our lives as an 8 year old rescue. When we first got him, we didn't understand why, every time we passed a body of water in the car, he would cry. Then we brought him to Albee Beach, after hours of course, and learned just how much he loved the water, certainly as much as any child at the beach. I recall getting on a Wolfeboro forum and asking the question, why can't one of the many beaches in the area be dog friendly? Some of the replies were almost viscious, people talking about having dirty dogs in the water, and how that was disgusting. The fact that small children are in the water with their diapers on (think about it) and that dogs never do their business in the water did not seem to occur to them. For some of us, dogs are our children. We just sold our sailboat in favor of a 32' Pontoon with lots of shade so our "children" could be with us on the lake. If you see us out there, give a toot, the name of the boat ? 'R' Doghouse, of course.

I love your post! You sound just like us! We do everything for so our "kids" can be with us too. I think it is sad that dogs are not allowed so many places. We have been told many times, how good ours are and they say they wish most kids were that good when people took them somewhere.

Our Cairn Terriers: Bailey and her new brother, Harry.
Bail will be two at the end of August and Harry is just shy of 3 months old.

Harry accidentally took his first swim today. Don't think he much cared for for it.

I've learned that is quite difficult to take good picture of a dark colored dog!

Default Check out your pups new license tags!

Rosie looks like a real good companion! I noticed the pine tree license on her collar. It is similar to our town's 2012 tag.

The thing that bothered me with our town's latest license tag is that the sharp edges had burrs, as opposed to other years where sharp edges were filed smooth. I don't know who manufacturerd these tags for towns, but I registered a complaint with my town and they said they would look into it. I filed Rielly's and Sam's new tags so there were no burr edges or sharp corners. Over protective? Maybe. Can't trust government agencies to make sure that my "kids" aren't hurt? You betya!

Unhappy Cooper

NickNH, I am so sorry for your loss. Cooper was a beautiful boy! Thank you for sharing your excellent picture of this wonderful lake dog with us. I'd like to think that he is romping in Dog Heaven with all of our lost friends. Thinking of you and your family.

Sincerely,

Celia

Jeff, Rosie is a great companion. Leslie and I love her. BTW that is not a Pine Tree License. It is a fire hydrant license.

Not quite 5 months old and he is almost as big as his sister. His ears, muzzle, tail and feet are already bigger than hers.

Smile Siren's first trip to Winni

This was Siren's first vacation and first trip up to the lake. We took him out on the boat for one ride, which he loved, but where he's only 5 months old and my son is not quite 6 it became chaos in a small area, so it was just a short trip to Channel Marine for gas, where the nice atttendent gave Siren a bunch of treats. From that day on everytime he'd want to walk down the dock to the boat in search of more treats

On a whim we entered a picture of our 6 month old malamute Kina at Lake Winnipesauke into a contest hosted by Yakima and Ruffwear. Somehow out of thousands of pictures, our girl is now a finalist - and representing Lake Winnipesaukee!

Default Loves the lake, not the water

Sadie is our 7 yr old lab/shepherd mix. She loves going up the lake, staying at the cabin, going out in the boat, but will not go in the water except up to her knees to drink. Have tried over and over but no amount of coaxing will work. She was a year when we adopted her; might have been different if we'd gotten her as a pup. But I wouldn't change a thing!

Hi cillovely, yes it is. We've been staying there the past few summers, this year for 2 weeks. For us and Sadie, it's just great. It's just below the new Woodlands Tavern on Smithpoint Rd/Railroad Ave. Just a super location!

I've noticed some dogs want nothing to do with water. Snow on the other hand is a different story.

I would like to introduce Trooper to the Winni Dogs, we just picked him yesterday 8 weeks old today.
First boat ride and I think he likes the water...and sand.

Thanks...although I had nothing to do with it! :-) That's the only breed of dog I've ever owned...I love 'em too!

steve-on-mark, to juxtapose your situation, I have never owned a Shepard, but think the are one of the most beautiful breeds on earth! Yours is spectacular.

not too loud...it'll go to his head! He's a West German Shepard, bred for temperment and Schutzand competition...he has no aggression what so ever and co-exists with cats and a bunny rabbit. He will sit there and groom them with his teeth...looks scary but they seem to enjoy it!

He looks lost without Bernie to play with!

I can't let Nicky steal all of the spotlight, here is our new pup Oliver. He is 13 weeks old and growing fast. He hasn't made a trip to the island yet.

Bear Island South: Trooper looks awesome! I was sad to read your post about Gus I know how hard it is. We also lost a dog earlier this year and just had to get another.

I love going thru this thread all the dogs are so cute!

My pup Siren misses the lake just as much as I do. The brook in the backyard just isn't the same amount of fun as catching waves.

I'm with you! It's great fun to see/meet all the forum pets. Sadie told me the other day how she misses the boat and the lake!

Thank you.
Trooper is our fourth Lab, we have always had 2, we waited until our breeder had a black male. Trooper and Riley are two years apart and have the same father.
