Default Kayaks

I'm looking to purchase kayaks(recreational), either single or tandem for the Lake. Are there some you would recommend. Want a good one that will last don't want to spend big dollars for it(what else in new).

Thanks

The folks at the place in Center Harbor (name skips me - my half century mind!) can offer great product and great suggestions. I think they have demo times and one can actually try the models in the lake at specified times.
I wanted to say Wilderness, but that's a brand of kayak Tom sold me.

I love my Wilderness Systems Pungo 120's but in rough water I get a little water over the bow. The bow isn't as high as other types. I find the width, hull shape, seat adjustments, cockpit insert and waterproof hatch to be better features than others I checked out. Bought them from the guy on the hill in Meredith (Sundance Spas). Best prices I could find. They also have a store in Amherst. I liked that I was able to spend my money with a local small business.

Here is the link for Wild Meadow Canoe that no-engine referred to in their post. This thread does belong in the Boating section though.

Default Necky Manitou

I have an Old Town, Loon tandem 12’ that I’ve had since 99 and it is a great kayak.
It is ok, really stable and safe but in no means sleek.
My wife searched brands and came up with the Necky, Manitou single person 14’ kayak that she purchased last summer.
This has the drop down keel which is a great thing to have if there is any wind.
I’d highly recommend this as a one person kayak for sleekness and ease of use, the only drawback is it is very low to the water and you will get wet when you are in boat waves especially on the lake where they come at you from all directions.
I would highly recommend searching the internet for used ones. She paid about half the price of a new one and got a Thule roof rack with it.

My Thule roof rack cast more than the kayak! Wish I had purchased one at Bass Pro Shop instead. Much less expensive and just as good.

Default Saco Bound Kayaks

We bought both of our kayaks (and have sent others as well) to Saco Bound which is located just outside North Conway- here is their website:

We have Camdens and they are terrific. The folks are very knowledgeable, helpful-excellent service.

We purchased two Old Town Dirigo 120's a few years back. They are very versatile and handle the Big Lake quite well. Weighing 49 lbs they are easy to transport to area lakes and rivers. They are stable and handle rough water well yet track well and are easy to paddle.
