Post Coast Guard Documented boat

I found a couple of places online where you can research the data on a boat that is documented with the US Coast Guard.

One is here:

http://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/st1/Coas...selByName.html

The other is using this link:

http://cgmix.uscg.mil/PSIX/PSIXSearch.aspx

I like the information provided in the first link a bit more.

So if you are wondering if a boat is documented with the Coast Guard, here is a way to search the info. However, I'm told there is a big backlog in the entering of the data, so it could be months old.

Also, a boat's documentation can be left to expire, or a boat can be sold and the new owner may not document the sale with the Coast Guard. So I suppose this information is only useful for boats where the documentation is renewed each year.

Other than some boat mortgage holders requiring it for title purposes I'm not sure if there is any advantage to a boat being CG documented if it's on the lake as you still have to pay your NH registration fees to get and display your NH registration sticker on your bow.
