Default Fight plan to increase ethanol to 15%! Deadline MONDAY July 20, 2009

There are only 6 days left (including today) for the public comment period on the proposal to increase the percentage of ethanol in gasoline from 10 to 15%!

The NMMA and Boat/US as well as other boating organizations are fighting this proposal. NMMA claims no boat engine has been designed, certified or warranted to run on gasoline containing more than 10% ethanol.

Please CLICK HERE for a link to the NMMA campaign and send an email to the EPA BEFORE the public comment period closes Monday July 20, 2009.

Thanks for posting the link. I sent it off just now.

The 10% cost me $475 to get my carb rebuilt, new plugs and a fuel filter installed to catch some of the particles that the ethanol leeches off my fiberglass tank.

Thank you Airwaves; we can't afford 15% ethanol and all the problems in boats and cars that surely will come with it!! I hope this write-in campaign works!!

You got off pretty cheap. I had to replace an 80 gal tank, all the hoses and replace all the gaskets in the carb. The boat origin was Virginia where they have ethanol. Cost me almost 3K.

Lakeport Landing assured me I should have no problem as they use a Stabil product as an addictive in their gas. Ron said to leave the tank empty for the winter. If any water should condensate, the ethanol will blend with the water and the fuel filter will take care of it.

I sent my letter to the Representatives. Hopefully numbers will speak louder than PAC money.

If you have a fiberglass tank, I'd suggest you do some reading on the subject and remove it. They don't last long with ethanol.

As for storage, empty can be fine. But the condensation will occur. Many suggest leaving the tank full, and adding Stabil.
