Default Celebrities and Other Notable People

Another thread got me to thinking ..... What other notable people live on or around the Lake?

As a businessman myself, I totally understand & respect the rights and desires for privacy.

Thus I am not attempting to "out" any particular people by yielding address' or such..... but on the other hand I do always enjoy pointing out to visitors the houses of some of the "notables" amongst us as we drive around the Lake. I truly believe we are ALL guilty of this to some degree.

Who hasn't pointed out the Marriot complex or Romney house. If it wasn't for the forum I would never have known infamous Boston weatherman (now deceased) Don Kent loved it here.

We know of course of Jerry Remy in Laconia....... perhaps some were not aware of Digital Equipment founder Ken Olsen.

Who else is amongst us ?

if this thread gets bashed, I ask that Don remove it -- I will not be offended (I am just truly curious)

Remy in Laconia, really? I never knew that.

Isn't Jimmy Fallon's wife's family up there? He named his daughter Winni after the lake because he loves it up there so much. Plus he and Justin Timberlake have that skit "Camp Winnipesaukee"

I think there is another thread about this. You might want to check that first before we start all over.

My husband saw him at Funspot last year. They admired from a distance to avoid bothering him and his family.

Don Kent had a place in Sanbornton. What made him "infamous"?

Default Don Kent

Don Kent was a loved and well respected weatherman in Boston and New England. Perhaps the writer is confusing the definition of infamous and famous. Looking forward to coming up to the lake this month. The countdown begins!

Mitt Romney, of course.

Didn't Madame Chiang own a home nearby too, back in the day?

There are so many, it's hard to think of them all. And tons we don't even know about I am sure.

Here are a few that have been or still are here. Even if they aren't still here the houses are. Ceos of Black and Decker, Stanley Tools, Singer Sewing, Compaq Computers and other computer people. JCPenney, Robie-rent a car which I think became Hertz, Dr Scholl, Demoulas as have been talked about, Tedeshi foods, Bank of Illinois, owner of Celtics, owner of Red Sox, Friends Baked Beans, 2 Walgreens, 2nd in command of Amway. As you mentioned, Romney of course, and Marriots. Bob Bahre, the lady who used to be on the show where they did home projects Home Time (?) I think was the name and can't remember her name. A few hockey players, Steve Leach among them. Jimmy Fallon comes a lot but he doesn't own a place here, his in laws did. The guy on the old tv program "Wings" has relatives and comes here but doesn't own a place. Can't think of his name.

Here are a few more. And I also forgot in my previous post the creator of Howdy Doody.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 6, 2012

Celebrities on Winnisquam, Winnipesaukee, Squam Lake, etc.
Recently the Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce FB account asked about famous people who live in and around the area. Here was our input (slightly edited): "How about Mitt Romney?... Famous quilt-maker Patricia Delaney, retired editor of The NY Times Review of Books editor Rebecca Smuckler, stock car driver Brad Leighton, the best-selling business book author of "Who Moved My Cheese?" by Spencer Johnson, NY/Boston kids' dressmaker Mary-Alice Dalton, Duane Hammond (creator of the popular pig cartoon creations at pigsinapoke.com), Ernest Thompson (Academy Award winner author of "On Golden Pond"), former Red Sox player and now announcer Jerry Remy, George Butler (comrade of Arnold Schwarzenger and creator of "Pumping Iron," the photo book/movie that made the former California governor famous), folks artist Jim Lambert of Tilton, Helen Nordquist of Alton (played in the All-American Professional Baseball League during World War II), Dick Binnett (of the Skiing Hall of Fame), Harvey Garrod (NH's most well-known personal injury lawyer), romance author Barbara Lewinsky (who has written national best-selling novels including "Lake News," which takes place in a town much like Meredith where she has a seasonal home), ” the Marriott hotel family, Chris Whitecomb (a former FBI employee who appears on an expert on national TV news programs), famous Olympic skier Penny Pitou, author J.P. Polidoro (who's novel about cloning Ted Williams foretold actual events), the state's most famous criminal defense attorney Mark Sisti, Russ Thibault (the state's foremost economist)... Oh, also the rumor that Michael Jordan was seen playing hoops on a community court in Wolfeboro about 10 years ago!"

The late Pat burns, coach of the boston bruins had a place at the lake. I believe Rick Middleton of the bruins has a place on winnisquam.

Wink Not sure where I heard it...

Rumored that Brittany Spears had spent a week, "trying out a compound" that she was thinking of buying, but the local lake population made a stink about the photographers and tabloid personel (def cant blame them) and she decided not to purchase......never heard where, and not sure that its true.

Someone said Mike Jordan, I had heard that same thing, that he owned a home and quite a bit of property somewhere in or outside of Wolfeboro, but not on the lake.

Doesn't Steve Taylor of Areosmith own in the lakes region?

Also, Corey Taylor of Slipknot fame, owns a place up North and is a big time snowboarder, I read that in a music mag.

Thats my two cents.
Glenn.

Talking Seaplane Pilot is a very famous anonymous person

Even if it does go through there is a good chance it might not have his name attached to it.

No, most likely a trust, but you can usually figure out something like that by the price and the location.

Or the trust name, or who the trust is registered to. I was messing around one day and at the time HHH's house was attached to a trust that had Vince McMahon's secretary as the contact.

If you read the BIO in that Wikipedia:
"He is now married to Amanda Aspinall and lives with her"

I was just at MVYC dropping some stuff off at my boat and I actually think I saw Erin Hall. I don't know for sure I have no idea who she is!

Default After his concert

I saw James Taylor peddling a bike, stop in parafunalia, and left on the bike. So yeah, there are celebrities around. Not as much as when the Winnipesaukee Playhouse existed.

If I knew where that parcel was I could look it up when I have a few minutes. It's kind of what I do for a living, hence the board name.

I am pretty sure it has not change hands yet. I get the Registry Review weekly -a paper that lists all property sales- among other things.

I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed hands yet. The annual summer party was last night. John Fogerty of CCR fame was the evening entertainment. That must have cost a bundle.

According to the Alton town website, Robert Bahre is the owner of the Clay Point property.

Somebody on here was right, they said Bahre was having his huge annual party last night. We just went by in the boat and the huge tent is there. Maybe it will be the last?? (for him anyway)

Default Cattle Landing Land

Anyone know what happened to the land that was owned by the Tamposi family in Meredith near Cattle Landing across from Stonedamn Island. I hope they didnt get approved for condos.... I worked for Sam Sr. in the 80's getting the site ready for a large scale development...similar to Jonathan Landing but I never knew what they ever ended up doing with it. It looks like new homes have been built, does anyone know if they still own the land or if there have been town approvals for condos

Please... no more Mcmansions
