Default Pier 19

Sooo...I could be wrong, but it seems like every opening season the question comes up about Pier 19...and if they are going to be opening again? Any one in the know? I am not far from them and sure use them many times during the season for gas and other stuff...not to mention the ice cream! Just wondering if anyone knows what is happening this year.

Man, oh man....if I only had a few bucks...ok..maybe a lot of them...I would love to "aquire" that business. I really think they have so much....and so much more they can offer.

If it were me, I would up scale the biz a bit...but not to much. A nice meat counter...nothing like good steaks and cold cuts. I also would not mind having a decent place to go to grab "breakfast on the go"...like bagels, egg sandwiches, good coffee.

What would you do if you have the $$$ to do it?

Oh, and are they opening this year?

Thanks.

IMO, the store should be smaller and less fancy and they need to own the gas docks and marina to be a successful business.

It is very interesting there. It seems a lot of people pick up things there but there must not be enough volume. Remember when Hunter's IGA tried it there but they didn't stay?

To begin with, it's too short a season to be a successful summer only type store, especially with such a big building with its attendant high year 'round overhead costs.
If it is to succeed, it will take a creative mom & pop style owner operator who dedicate themselves and who have enough working capital available to make it work.
That's a terribly rare combination and even with the real estate's current depressed value, it may still be too big a nut for anyone to succeed.
All an unfortunate combination of circumstances, in my opinion.

It is our understanding that the store will remain open each season until it is sold. We expect it to open this season in early May. Possibly the week of May 9th. Not official but this is what we are hearing.

I'll bet they would do better with gas pumps, with competitive prices.
I am buying all my gas at Fullers now. Funny if you think about it. 19 no pumps. Fullers, no food.....Hmmm....

Property originally listed 7/1/09 at $1,568,000 by Stev Patriquin of Bean Group and subsequently reduced to $1,299,000 with an indicated assesment of $1,094,000. Includes gas pumps on dock, 35 dedicated parking spaces, 1.76 acres and 2009 taxes of $9,292. There are no sales or income figures given but it is very hard to believe how anyone could makes a buck on a seasonal business at the present asking price or even a substantially reduced price. Must be something very special in the water there.

Pier 19 is open for everything except the soft-serve part of the ice cream stand. I'm told by the staff that they'll be up to full service this weekend.

The sign in they put in the window last fall says 'closed for the season, see you next spring' or something to that effect.

Default Pier 19 will open this season

Over the weekend I got confirmation that the Pier 19 store will be opening right before Memorial Day Weekend, most likely May 22 or 23.

Default Pier 19 opens May 20th, 21st, or 22nd in 2013

I received a call from Lisa, the store manager, who ordered some Bizer maps (shameless plug here). Lisa said that Pier 19 would be opening the week before Memorial Day, probably Wednesday the 22nd, but possibly as early as the 20th. This pretty much completes my sure-signs-of-spring: Robins, Ice out, Shakedown Cruise, Jojo's opening, Pier 19 opening.
