Default Thanksgiving on an island

As it is the waiting time of year again, I was wondering if any other island dwellers were going to be lucky enough to spend some of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend alone on the islands?

Default Gilford Island residents

Many of the Gilford Island residents spends Thanksgiving on the island. Take a look at the Glendale docks. After Oct 15, there are no restrictions as to who can dock their boats there.

Default i wish i was...

Not this time. The water is shut down and although we're still doing a few overnights out there till ice-in and we could use paper plates for dinner, I don't think the extended family at Thanksgiving is willing to use the woods...

maybe next year... PIG

After we bought the island house, I have wanted to spend at least some part of the holidays on the island. But, our boat is stored at a marina and needs to be out of the water by Oct 31st, I'm looking for a beater boat to use during the off season but have not gotten around to finding a good one yet.

Someday..........

Come on ice in!

Neighbors on Bear had spent Thansgiving on the island for years. Then the wives decided it was twice the work for them so that the men could fish when they were not watching football.

Any updates from those who braved it? From the web cams and power outage warnings, it looked like and eventful weekend to be on an island.

I was on rattlesnake this weekend. VERY windy out there and cold. About as rough as I've ever seen the lake...Huge rollers more so then choppy waves.

we arrived on Bear at 3pm on Saturday, 2-3' rollers on the way over, the wind was out of the northwest so it wasn't too bad in our cove.

We closed on Sunday, mid 40's and sunny, not much wind, I was sweating pulling out the dock.

We had a great season: April 9th - November 29

No loss of power which is surprising....Actually came in on Sunday morning and Minge Cove was without power on mainland. Still holding out on the island...going to have to pull the boat in the next few weeks..
