Default Ethanol Vs Water

(I'm not sure if this is better suited to "General Discusson" or the "Boating" forum but I'm sure boaters are interested in ethanol related materials so I am starting this in "Boating" and will rely on our Moderator's judgment.)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Increase in Ethanol Production From Corn Could Significantly Impact
Water Quality and Availability if New Practices and Techniques Are Not Employed

WASHINGTON -- If projected increases in the use of corn for ethanol production occur, the harm to water quality could be considerable, and water supply problems at the regional and local levels could also arise, says a new report from the National Research Council. The committee that wrote the report examined policy options and identified opportunities for new agricultural techniques and technologies to help minimize effects of biofuel production on water resources. ...

I don't think there's any concern for corn production in the Winnipesaukee Basin affecting the Big Lake's water quality. Most local corn is grown for local consumption, not for bio-fuels.

What happens to Mid-West waters—already a problem—is cause for concern.

i think the point that get's missed is ethonol is not the savior many greenies make it out to be. It can't replace our reliance on foreign oil, it's not good for the enviroment and it costs prices of all types of food to rise because you have competing crops and an increase in food costs for animals.

Ethanol is a farce being pushed by the politicians of both parties so they can say they are doing something while really nothing is happening. Wind turbines and increase nuclear powerplants would be a better place to spend the 50 cent a gallon fed subsidy on ethanol.

I threw this out as a "Big Picture" piece. I've noticed some of our members are smart enough to be interested in that type of information.

Not to mention the damage that ethanol is causing to some of our motors. It is destroying carbs faster than ever.

Another curious thing is to think about a gasoline spill in the lake. Gasoline floats on the water and could be contained. Ethanol combines with the water. Maybe, someday, we can heat our homes on lake water?

Ossippee is right on.I also believe it it's not really green because of the energy it takes to produce it.Maybe Al Gore should give back his Peace Prize.
