New Marker ??

I was out cruising Sunday and noticed a tall "skinny" (perhaps 3-4" wide)marker somewhat adjacent to FL #77 off Ministers Point. Anyone have a clue as to what it is ?? At first I thought it may be a newly designed Black or Red Top --- but not was the case.

As I look on my chart there is a * denoting a rock that is almost where the marker was placed (to my recollection) but have never seen this or any similar marker previously ........ if it is there next weekend, I will get a picture of it

Noticed the same "marker" last week and wondered what it is. Probably doesn't make a huge difference since it is very treacherous and rocky inside the regular marker you referenced.

I think you're talking about the new loon nesting markers. I saw about a half-dozen of them on the lake and was scratching my head because you can't read the writing unless you're right up next to them.

Kind of defeats the purpose of getting people to stay clear of the area if they can't even see what the marker is for.

May be the answer KTO --- this appeared to be (as I said) 3-4" wide - perhaps 1" deep and as tall as a typical new marker and from the quick glance, appeared to be of plastic or fiberglass construction -- thus my first instinct was a new black- red top design.

Again, I went by at 45-ish .... and it caught my eye, for the details I will return next weekend.

but as you say -- if it is a new Loon Nesting -- they best go back to the orange, low profile, sandwich board style that everyone is familiar with and can read from a distance

Phantom, the nesting area signs are a different color than the baby loons signs. As I recall the nesting signs are white and then when an egg is hatched, the orangish signs go up. (I hope I remember those colors right)
