Six Pack Current Down a marker

Well it appears that sometime Sat. into Sunday, someone decided to ruin a good marker.... and probably damage their boat a little. The Red Marker oppisite the lighted black is noticiably gone. Not just broken off, I have seen that many times, but gone, not even visable.

Boaters beware....

As for the marine patrol being notified, my guess is they already know, we had several boats go by on sunday.... I even got to see the MP in action as they pulled a guy over who was towing 3 wakeboarders.... all the action happen right in front of the camp.... The guys didn't look horribly shocked, but the wivies on the boat seemed rather annoyed.

The black marker off Sandy Island's most northeastern shore has had its tippy-top chopped off. Rounding it from a westerly direction, I almost missed seeing it.

What happened to the 4x4 wood markers we used to have?

After a few years they'd get saturated and lose bouyancy. If not attended to in time, they'd sink. NHMP probably recycled the mooring gear when possible. The wood probably went into a land fill.

The good thing is there are not any known rocks in that section,just water depth lower than 6 ft.

Never assume they know. I called in a marker in early July that was in a very high-traffic area and this was the first time I had heard about it. It had been missing since the summer began (or at least until the jet ski had been put in mid June). Just call it in to be safe!

Is not this also known as the Little Graveyard? If so, there are some impressive rocks if one strays out of the channel.

I dunno, I've never ventured outside the channel to find out and I ahve never seen any lurking near there. I know the Graveyard is rocky, I can recall seeing them plain as day from the fly bridge of my parent's boat when I was a kid.

I've taken the jet ski on the "wrong" side of the reds before, and all it seems to be is just shallowness, as far as I could tell. Not even significantly shallow at most times of the year, somewhat like what the very southern point of these markers is (Gets as low as 5 feet).

I didn't realize that area was called Six Pack either. Do you know why?
We were there last Sunday and noticed the buoy missing. That is where we hit late in the season several years ago, damaging the prop. We were inside the marker but I guess with the water down, you had to stay well away from it.
In front of Hurricane Island, it is very rocky. I would not want to try to access it from that side. It would be an obstacle course!

I am not positive, but I think it's simply because the markers look just like a six pack, as viewed from above, on the Duncan chart.

Yup,the channel markers are aligned 3x3,just like a six pack.Looking at bizer's map,there are no rocks showing if you navigated by the next(middle) red marker.One is shown off of the eastern side of Hurricane which id marked by the middle marker.Even the 3 black markers that mark the southwest side of the channel don't show any rocks up to LI.

I assume, they knew because, the MP boats where in the area all day.... If they didn't pick up on it, I would be real disappointed in their abilities....

Now with that said the marker is back in place...

Now as to the dangers out side the channel.... Having explored the are in canoe and Kayak, I can tell you there are various rocks on either side of the channel that could cause issue. Most of the year most of them wouldn't cause an issue for a small run about on plane but to anything that drafts more then a couple of feet, plowing through either side of the channel could be hazourdous..... These rocks are not as big as the graveyard but any stetch but they are there.....

Also on a sunny day, in the middle of channel in between the Lighted black and accompany red, you can spot a rock that in years of extremely low water has claimed some victims....... its has some noticable scars.....
