Thumbs up Vanity Plates

This came to me as I was driving yesterday. Does anyone have vanity plates from NH or otherwise that make reference to the lake? I do. Let see how many creative members are out there... I will start, mine reads WINPSKE

Default Vanity plates

That's a very good question ! In my travels I have seen plates on out of state vehicles making mention of something in New Hampshire. I live in Wolfeboro so I am more apt to see a plate trying to say Wolfeboro than some other NH connection. I have seen CT, VA, NY, MA, PA, FL trying to say Wolfeboro in some configuration. I can honestly say I haven't seen any attemps at Lake Winni (I can't spell Winnipesaukee), but now I will be on the look out.

Default Funny you should ask . . .

My kids and I made a game of keeping track of license plates this summer to pass the time as we drove. At first, we just kept a list of what state's people came from. After a while, though, we started adding unusual vanity plates. Here are a few of the lake ones:

YUMYUM
FUNSPOT
WNIPSKE
LAKWIN
LAKWIN
LK-WINN
NJ 2 NH (a Jersey plate obviously)

By the way, mine (from NJ) is ECHO PT. It can be seen far and wide all over Alton Bay in August each summer.

I believe Big Lake is already used locally in the Alton area.

Hi Jersey Girl,

My 2 plates say ECHOPT and 2ECHOPT. But they refer to a place on Winnisquam not Winnipesaukee. Cool coincidence though

BAYSIDE, BAY and SIDE are all taken plates. I know that BAY and SIDE were the plates Jessie Rogers had back in the early 60's for the Bay Side Motel now Bay Side Inn, Alton Bay. Wonder if the Inn has BAYSIDE now. I have seen the other ones on their vehicles.

I'm pretty sure I recall reading that New Hampshire has the largest number of vanity plates, relative to number of registered vehicles, in the country.

Saw 2 new plates in Salem and Londonderry today.

DVR-DWN (thought of Grant) and WAKE49 (SUV bought in Tilton)
Both were NH plates.

Default Vanity Plates

I love this topic. It came up about 5 yrs ago, and has only been casually on the air since then.

One area I'm interested in is how people from [I]other[I] states try to make reference to Winnipesaukee, Wolfeboro (my town), other NH towns or attractions.

While driving in Pensacola I saw a car with NH "HAMPBCH", and, during the summer, here in Wolfeboro, I see cars from other states trying to say Wolfeboro. Funny, come to think of it, I don't see too many cars (maybe none) from NH trying to say non-NH locations.

Personally, my favorite is NH plate PCONE (that's me!).

Smile My favorite of all time

I always wondered why a neighbor of mine in Lake Shore Park had the NH Plate NONE.

The story he told was that when he applied you had to fill out a form and submit it to the DMV. They gave you three choices.

He put in, #1 - his nickname, 2# a reference to his business. He couldn't think of a #3 choice so he filled in the spot on the form with.. you guessed it, NONE.

I just looked it up on the NH Vanity plate site, and it's available again. I think he moved out of state, or passed away. The resturant was the Cherrystone, it was across from Mountain View in Gilford. His name was Jim O'Brien.

This isn't quite in line with Vanity plates -- however my wife and I are extremely curious if this individual is a member of the forum ---

In Mass as you know there are many different "cause" plates. Where the added fee for the registration go to a particular cause i.e. Red Sox Plates go to the Jimmy Fund, Olympic symbols - support the US Olympics, etc .......

Amongst the many, recently they finally issued Breast Cancer Plates (which is very near & dear to my wife and I) and now both our vehicles carry them.

Anyway -- last Fall we spotted "BC 1" outside C J Avery's which obviously is the individual who initiated the drive for this series of Plates ......

Are you out there amongst us here in the forum??

I have seen the Jersey plate that has my screen name on it recently: NJ2NH. I think another Jersey girl saw it, too, and spoke to the people in a parking lot down here not so long ago!

My ECHO PT plate is dented and bent, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. The dealer tried to make me give it up when I got a new truck a couple of years ago. NEVER!

While the French might say "yes yes", I'm guessing the owner went for a more phonetic interpretation, "wee wee", thus making the car yellow.

Dead on with #1.

#2 - think Ford in the 1960s.

#3's right on the profession, but the question was what kind of car.

Ya still got a chance.

The color of the car with the OUI OUI plate's still out there.

A few more:

The plate of a very clever enthusiast of a certain sport.

Hint: Think Roman numerals and chemical symbols from the periodic table of elements.

Yup. And that's a real life NH plate.

The others may or may not exist here in NH. I found them some time back on a site listing interesting plates. Don't think the state of origin was listed.

Here's a rude one. It's an amended version of the real life one (don't want to push the envelope on language):

2 U WERCS

Ya still got a chance.

The color of the car with the OUI OUI plate's still out there.

A few more:

The plate of a very clever enthusiast of a certain sport.

IX FE

Hint: Think Roman numerals and chemical symbols from the periodic table of elements.

It is a Crosby tune, isn't it? I always think Andrews Sisters, but it was a joint endeavor, I think released as a Crosby record.

Maybe - especially if you're heading down the Mt. W Auto Road in one of them

Since this has strayed off the Winni-path, I'm going add a couple...

"SHDOWFX" (Hint: named for a famous fictional horse.)

"22MANY" (Guess what kind of vehicle that was on....)

"NH2STAY" (Self-explanatory. The vehicle is registered here in Alton.)

"SWTNLW" (Hint: It comes in a pink packet.)

"STOL3N" (Self-explanatory. Imagine being the cop that has to call that one in!)

"IFARTED" (No. I didn't. But how did they get that approved?)

Which leads to the personalized plate I had on my Ford Festiva in high school....

"FUBB" (Yes, it's an acronym. Google it if you don't know it.)

Default Vanity Plates

To stretch this topic out a little, try going to Google and entering the following: PL8SPK. Several responses will come up, including a book entitled PL8SPK Vanity Plates Retell The Classics. In reality, this is a rather challenging book with some rather difficult vanity plates. It is a great table top book, but watch out for scratching, the front and back covers are license plate metal.

I applied for the vanity plate DOO DOO one time. It ended up being denied. Any guesses?

I currently have the plate NOSNHOJ on my car. It is pretty easy for most people to figure out, but I have heard some pretty funny guesses as well.

Post Doctor DK

1) "DRDK", a clever plate, but on a frequently off-course/oft-damaged Corvette at our Driver Schools.

(I'd see a different "DR").

2) My own sports-racer had "2-LTR-6" for a plate. What car would that be on, and why would a "two-liter-six" engine be remarkable in that car?

(Member Mee'n'Mac would know. )

I still remember watching the live footage of the chase. The announcer was describing a 'slow white bronco.'

My first thought was the cops were in pursuit of John Elway.

OK, I'm out of ammo. Sorry if I led this thread astray. I'll blame it on the little boy in me...

Seems I can't make him leave. Wouldn't be fair. Afterall, he was there first.

Besides, him and me, we have a lot of fun together.

On topic (this time at least):

I was behind a Cadillac this morning for a short while on Center Street in W'boro. Plate was WINNI.

Myself, I don't have a VP. Honestly, can't even remember the numbers on mine. My mnemonic shortcoming - ironically - is a good way to remember to turn off the headlights when I go into the grovery store.

Saw this on a Caddy from NY.

I had 'BLIP' on my Fiat years ago.

I also saw 'BCNU' and 'BCNU2' around Gilford for a while.

As well as '2GETHER'

Just an FYI for any vets. Both WINNI and WINNIE are available as NH veterans vanity plates.

I hate to say it but 45MPH is available in a regular vanity plate or those of that persuasion

Yes, I was amazed at how easy it was to get the names I wanted on my veteran plates. I have ORION (of course) and VP-16 (my old squadron) on my other vehicle.

Winnie is a taken as a regular vanity plate and according to the NH DMV web site you cannot have the same letter/number combination on another type of NH plate (Veteran, Conservation etc).

Some variations for Alton Bay are still available. Me - I just got my Winnipesaukee.com handle "JSTSLD" on a Veteran vanity plate.

Default two passions

Wife and I have two passions...the lake, and golf.

Her car : PAR-1 (that's an birdie) (and a sweet ol' bird she is)

My car : PAR-2 Veteren plate, that's an eagle, and I was in the USAF, double meaning.

And oh the fun of driving in NH and trying to figure out the plates

Another "late" one I saw yesterday - 4EVRL8

A lake one seen in Moultonborough this past weekend - either HRMTCVE or HRMTCV (tough to read as it's going by you).

My friend out in California had a Red Sox related one - MFY1918. This was before 2004 but she's kept it. When she went to the California DMV and asked what it was, she said it stood for My Favorite Year and the 1918 was when her grandfather was born.

NH is one of the few states that duplicates the plate "number" on different playe types. You can get a "regular" plate with that "ECHOPT" and get a "Conservation" or other special logo plate, with "ECHOPT" on it also.

A few more riddles for you all.

The owner of this tag might have been a fan of a certain musician, accordionist, bandleader, and television impresario who hosted an epynominous TV show from 1955 to 1982.

A1 AN A2

This one's straightforward. But what's remarkable about the arrangement of the letters. (Think 'Bob' or 'Hannah' or the first name of the man who unified the German principalities in the 1800s):

ATOYOTA

Guess the hair color of this vehicle's owner:

AU YLOKS

The plate's simply "Wunnerful, Wunnerful".
{HINT : and a 1 and a 2 ... and I think the plate was the impresario's himself}

The best one I've seen anywhere was in Meredith.

A snappy looking convertable had the plate BLONDE and it was UPSIDE DOWN (on the front). I thought that was pretty funny!

Seen approaching the Hampton toll booths one Monday morning in late August. Car with MA plates heading south (as was I). I'm guessing we left from the same place...

My NJ plate is "ECHO PT". I get tons and tons of comments and everyone in town knows my plate.

There is another Jersey car with NJ2NH. I stole that one for my webname. Wish I could get that one.

A few years ago, the kids and collected all the good NH plates. I could have sworn I posted this once before, but maybe not. Here goes:

SUESUE
COCKNEY
YUMYUM
FUNSPOT
GAL-UP
B-AS-UR
MSCRAT
WNIPSKE
PIKACHU
CMOMSKI
HEY BABY
BRNBEAR
LAKWIN
LK-WINN
BIG WORM

My nephew sited the last one and started calling me that for the whole vacation.

Got behind a septic service truck today (honey wagon, I guess it's called), and noted they had a personalized plate...

And I just had to smile. Too cute!
