I was sitting in my boat yesterday with engine off, then about 10 mintes later I heard the trim motor go off by itself and then stop. Then about 10 minutes later the same thing it went off again. The is happend again about 10 minutes later ,so I tapped on the trim handle switch and it stopped.I waited around for like 30 minutes and it didnt do it again.I had started the engine at one point and put the engine in the water when a few minutes later the trim motor decided to lift it out on its own.Very strange anybody hear of this problem,oh by the way this happend right after I decided to rinse the inside of my boat down with a garden hose.

Default Water in the switch?

I'm guessing you had a little water in the switch. The motion of the boat could cause it to move around and make contact, and tapping it would dislodge the water it enough to correct it. Has it happened again?

Default sure you weren't hearing the bilge pump?

did you actually see the motor (or drive unit - not sure if you're talking about an O/B or I/O) lifting?

a bilge pump and trim motor can sound alike.. and you did mention you were using a hose in the boat...

Assuming it was the trim pump, I'd have a look at the UP solenoid. Perhaps the spring inside is failing and it's making contact by itself.

What brand/model engine/drive/OB do you have?
