Websites for Engine parts ?
Can folks share their favorite websites for purchasing boat engine parts ?
Shopping for engine some parts, and obviously want to get the best price, but also good service. I have a Mercruiser, but websites don't have to be specific for this brand. Thanks ! |

www.dougrussell.com has been good. I've had bad luck with some of the "super discount" places, sometimes the best price isn't the best deal.
If you have any doubt about what you need, it's probably a good idea to shop locally at an authorized Merc dealer and have your engine and drive serial numbers handy. There's subtle differences in some stuff within the same year of manufacture. In case you did not know, NAPA Auto Parts has an extensive marine catalog and some of the stores near popular boating destinations have marine parts in stock. I was able to get a starter right off the shelf, for my Merc 7.4MPI in the Portsmouth NAPA, on a Sunday morning, two years ago. |

Websites for Engine parts ?
Just wanted to pipe-in about 'Doug Russell' also......
I've also heard some nightmmare stories about customers who have dealt with Doug Russell. Saw a true story in a Boat U.S. magazine from an irate customer of Doug Russell, who they dragged through misery. Only was until Boat U.S. intervened, that D.R. backed down, and the customer got satisfaction. This wasn't for any trivial part but a new sterndrive costing several thousand dollars. I live in Central Mass, near Doug Russell, and personally know other boaters in the area who have had extremely bad experinces using this dealer. Not a place I would want to do business, 'No Thanks' ! Just my 2 cents. BTW, found a GREAT mairne parts/accessories website, and going to make some purchases. Hopefully, service will be as exceleent? TBD. Check it out, 'Wholesale Marine' -----> http://www.wholesalemarine.com/ |

Huh, my online purchases at DR have been easy, reasonably priced and painless. I have never purchased any big ticket stuff there though. They have awesome parts diagrams for practically everything online. At least use them to get the proper part numbers...

A little over a year ago I tried to purchase a New Outdrive from DR. (Around $2500.) They seemed to have an attitude that just turned me off, so I walked away. Wouldn't go back.

Parts
It depends on whether you want and can get new parts or if good used parts will do. I have a 1979 Evenrude 115 hp that the motor mounts broke, They do not make those parts anymore, can you imagine that. I went to a couple boat yards around the lake and they sent me to a marine recycling place in Meridth. They took a motor and got the part right then, and it was 50% of what the book charged for new. He has a lot of different motors and parts. Stern drives. Might be worth your time.
