Default 2010-11 snowcover officially melted

The snowcover of winter 2010-11 has now officially melted at the WeatherCam. We logged 104 consecutive days of measurable snowcover (1 inch or more), reaching a max depth of 29 inches on February 28, and ending April 9 when snowcover became a "Trace."

How does this compare to recent seasons?

Last year: 59 days; max depth 13 in.

2008-09: 106 days; max depth 27 in.

2007-08: 135 days; max depth 43 in.

2006-07: 71 days; max depth 17 in.

Our season snowfall is 92.4 inches (compared to 120.8 inches during the incredible winter of 2007-08.)

Last year our latest measurable snowfall was April 17, with 1.5 inches. Snowfall is not likely this upcoming week, so it is possible that we have seen our last measurable snowfall for the season. A return to such a wintry pattern is possible after this upcoming warm spell, but each passing day now brings longer and more direct sunlight, greatly reducing the chance of accumulating snow.

If it doesn't melt this week, there's somethin' wrong... highs over 70 expected tomorrow (Monday) and 50s to around 60 all week.

Waterville Valley has mucho more snow cover than in Meredith. In Meredith, it's leaf raking time, while in WV the golf course is 100% totally white and thick with snow. The cross country ski trails are closed but there's an opportunity now to be using about 75km of all the trails at no charge. Ditto that for sno-boarders up at the half pipe and ramps on the ski area. The ski area is closed but there is a lot of snow all over and walking up to ski-snowboard is possible and welcome by the ski area.

The snow that still remains on the golf course and in the woods is some type of dehydrated, old gnarley snow that is easy to walk on without breaking through. Eskimos call it "heap tough old yucky snow - ugh, where the H is spring?" in Eskimo speak.

WV is about 1000' higher in elevation and about 35-miles north of Meredith.
