Default Ignition Switch Problems

The ignition in my Monterrey seems to be screwed up. I can turn the key all the way round in either direction, and when the motor is running, I'm not getting power to the GPS/radio. I do get accessory power in certain key positions, so I don't think its a lose wire.

Is there something simple that needs to be tightened or am I likely to need a new ignition switch. I can get to the back of the dashboard. Is the fix/replacement something I can likely do myself (I', handy but no boat mechanic)?

All advice appreciated. Thanks.

Whimsey...

Its possible that you just need to tighten the bezel that holds the key switch to the dash...

If that doesnt solve your problem, then you will need a new key switch... they are readily available at any marina or autoparts store. Its an easy do it yourself job if you can get to the back of the switch where the wires connect.

Thanks Woodsy. The bezel is tight. So I'll try and replace the switch when the rain stops.

You might want to change switch types too. Add a different switch to supply power to the other systems. Or wire a supply line for them back to your battery switch.

Good luck!

Default All Fixed UP

Thanks for the input. Got a new ignition switch from Dave's Motorboat Shoppe for $29 and 45 minutes of labor, and we're right as rain. Or boating in the rain...seems more apt today.
