Default Boat going in?

Got my letter from the marina yesterday asking for a launch date. We usually like to launch in April, but I don't thing that's going to happen this year. I wonder what the chances are for the first weekend in May?

I for one am not changing my instructions to the marina " as soon as there is enough open water at the dock put me in " As long as I can plug in to shore power for heat and hot water I'm there.

That's a tough call. I would think there should be plenty of water to put a boat in, in late April. The weather seems to swing from season to season quicker, maybe a little more extreme. Meaning when the temps finally decide to rise they jump and spring happens quick. The sun will getting strong soon too.

If you tell them to put your boat in mid April and conditions aren't suitable do they wait until boats can go in then start the list in order, or does your date go by and you go to the end of the list.

Default West Alton Marina...

May 1st... I figure the Marina will be ice free and some of the lake open as well, even if we do not have "ice out" declared.

At least we can go out and troll some, and on a nice day, hang a hook at the sand bar.

Default Boat Going In

Your reply should be asap !! Most marinas welcome the opportunity to get your boat out of the yard and into your slip and get the season started

I had a similar first thought too. I would think once the ice is no longer a threat for damage marinas would be thrilled to get season started.

Default Lakeport Marinas

I have seen some winters that area never freeze because of the river current. This year it is pretty solid to walk on.

Usually the marina would launch the boats as soon as the warn weather is here. There were springs my boat is ready to go, even when Paugus Bay is frozen. They pretty much jump the gun so that the marina can spend time getting other boats ready.

I have taken the boat up to the dam and out to the bay to the ice just because I have that itch for boating!

Maybe we can have a contest, who is the first to launch his boat and actually took a little cruise?

Default Long wait for Summer

Most marinas will wait until the ice is gone, but also make sure that there are no more nights that the boat could freeze up. They are reluctant to put a boat in and run the motors because of the liability involved in a freeze up.

There is at least one marina on the lake that puts the boats in as soon as their marina is without ice. They do not start the boats but push them into their slips and go back and start them later when they know the cold nights have passed.

Good plan! Avoids the spring rush!

Default wait till the ice age is over

Wait till the threat of ice flows is past. While your boat may float, you don't want a your boat between a massive moving iceberg and where it wants to go.

Default I'm ready !!

Looks like "Salty Dog" and I are the only ones out there... Ha Ha... But, I'm with you Phantom !! Usually, April is acceptable... But this season will probably have to wait until early May to get the old "Shoots & Ladders" in !! Hope to see you out there this year !!

Default May 3rd

Though skeptical when I set the date to launch the boat, it looks like I will have no problem with May 3rd.

I can see Saunders bay over to Governor's Island from my house. There is LOTS of open water. Also, check out the "Snake Eyes" web cam. The ice is going alot quicker than I think anyone thought.

I agree. The 232 has one of the best Wellcraft lay outs, ride and handling with great seating comfort but it has a very small cuddy. So we decide to sell it.
We decided to downsize and I was looking for a bowrider. Then I was out voted, sound familiar? So we went for a more typical cuddy layout in a 19'-21' with a V6 vs V8. Age was not a serious issue for us either but condition is. More on that later.

Default Boat is in, went for a spin

Minge Cove around 1:30 today, Saturday. We only ventured to the end of the cove since the wind was howling, the dog was in the car, and we just needed a taste today. I am a happy camper!!!

Default Took a spin.

Took a spin yesterday, from the dock down to the dam and out to Paugus Bay just beyond Irwin's. I don't want to venture to far because of the shifting ice.
