Alton Bay Fly-In
I am sure it is here somewhere, but I cannot seem to find the info on the forum or anywhere else for that matter. None of the webcams seem to be working either.
Is Alton Bay frozen? Are the planes coming in? Thanks!

Bay is frozen and planes were visiting, up until the snowstorm. But I believe work has begun on the runway again, I will be there on thursday and try to report back with an update.

Went by the bay today and Paul and his helpers are working hard and steady to get the runway done. I've never seen it so bad, they got their work cut out for them but they were making good progress. Must be rough on them and their vehicles to move this heavy stuff around without hardly any traction.
Good Job Guys! It looks like the show will go on thanks to your efforts.

here's some pics taken just before 4 pm 2-13
I stopped and took a picture from the bridge. I then cropped the original. Both are included. Paul, and the airport crew, plus a few others have done a great job. Hope the snowmobiles, ATV's and vehicles will stay off it, especially if the sun softens the ice at all.
Here we are:

Looking good today. It's obvious a lot of work went into this.
Light wind from the south this morning. |

Planes can land and take off fine but can the passengers make it ashore?

My grandson walked out to the gazebo today. He said it was really wet and very slippery. He said he almost fell twice and some guy out there fell in a wet spot. Really looked sloppy. Hope it gets better for the weekend.

As a Private Pilot, I would NOT land anywhere...nevermind on ice, that I knew to have ONE inch of water on the runway...never mind 10 inches....Water OR Slush. NG
I Assume there is a contact on the ground with a radio...Like a temporary FBO..and Aviation Knowledge... that will Wave Off pilots IF necessary due to water/slush on the runway. Nose Wheel pilots beware... There was a very expensive wreck last year...It wasn't water...ICE IS slippery. NB |

Now that the wind has died down today there was some traffic. The bottom of the boat launch ramp is still in bad shape for entering/exiting the ice. There was a plow truck today clearing a path from near Gillan Marine over to the plane parking area.
