Default Parking at Mt Major

I was thinking about a family hike at Mt Major this Saturday. I will have my boat in tow when I get there though. Is there room to park it nearby? It's been a really long time since I hiked there.

I see alot of folks parking on the side of the road at the entrance of the trailhead parking lot seems that would be easy enough to do the same with a boat trailer

I hike there a lot. Don't go in the parking lot unless it's obviously empty, no way to make the turn at the top with a trailer. You'll end up backing out. Worse yet someone could come after you and trap you.

I'd park on the side of the road as NHWakesurfer suggests. I've parked there a few times and no one bothered me.

Think about an early start on weekends in summer, crowds and heat...

Default Parking along Rte 11

I notice people parking along the major route. A decade ago you would get a ticket. Did Alton police change policy?

On peak weekends there may be 100+ cars along the road. In my 16 years here I never heard of the Alton PD ticketing cars at Mt Major.

If you get there real early you could do a loop in the parking lot and park the vehicle + trailer along the side on the way out of the lot. But you need to have someone scout this first and I mean early country time not city time.
