Default Harris -Kayot Catamaran

Anyone have any experience with these.? Saw one for sale in Belmont 1999 24' that used to be on Ossipee Lake. It's a Merc/Volvo...does about 60mph.Seemed like a good buy, but never having owed a cat,I'm wondering how they do in the chop.

60 MPH uhm if you hit big chop in that and bury the front you will be the first sub on the lake for a couple of hundred yards anyway. I buried the bows my 22 footer with a 90 horse one day due to a lack of judgement on my part and as Bill Cosby says, First you think it , then you say it and then you do it. It was not a happy experience

Thanks for the tip OFD......I've never owned a cat and would appreciate any info on how they handle. So far we like the way it rides in light chop. Not really into it for speed, just cruising. How do they do crossing large wakes and big waves??

What is a Harris-kayot catamaran? Are you talking about a tri-toon pontoon boat???

No,Codeman,it's a 24' deck boat with a catamaran hull.It has a Merc/Volvo drive and will do around 60mph.But it's not really the speed that interests me.It runs very quiet, has a layout similar to pontoon boats so it's great for cruising with friends.I'm trying to find out how it does crossing large wakes and big swells......I'm sure I'll get used to it but just looking for some info from someone who's owned a cat.

I just Googled Harris-Kayot Catamaran and Google brought me back to your post on Winni.com....however I did come up with this.

http://www.boattrader.com/listing/20...-S245-95287713

It's NOT a Catamaran but a modified "V" hull with the Volvo O/D. A SINGLE Outdrive Powered Catamaran would be problematic. To be practical, a catamaran hull would need TWO outdives..One in each hull.

Harris-Kayot also seems to make conventional aluminum Toon Boats. NB

They did make what was called an Ultracat back in the 90's. Never saw one though. There was a bulletin on the earliest ones (1995) for insufficient engine ventilation.
