Dock Boat Whips
A friend of mine wants to buy some whips for her dock. Have any of you ordered any?

Dock boat whips
This subject was extensively discussed last summer, and, if I remember correctly, notwithstanding some subtle differences, the general opinion was to determine what size is appropriate for your boat (length, weight) and then buy the next size up. Also, from personal experience with whips, follow the tie-off directions as printed in the directions. Be sure to mount the dock sockets very securely, even having packing plates, if possible. I used pieces of 2x4 running perdendicular to the deck boards and drilled through eveything and used bolts and washers to snug everything up tight.

I luv em... Have a set for my boat and another for my jet ski. They'll keep your boat off the dock in all but the very worst conditions.

Ditto other opinions. I use a pair of 8-footers for a 17-ft boat, but that is in relatively quiet water, with the only wave action coming from boat traffic. Be especially careful to mount the base sockets so that they are anchored firmly to the dock frame. You can mount them to the deck surface, provided that surface is anchored securely to the frame. Many docks depend on the weight of removable deck sections to keep them in place on the frame. The pull of the whips when a good wave passes underneath the boat can lift even heavy deck sections.

I agree with everything that was said here...
My suggesting if your friend is on the nothernside of the lake is to stop in to Center Harbor dock and Pier. His prices might be higher then what you find online, but the always have them in stock....

I purchased mine last year at Center Harbor as well. Very helpful to a new boat/dock owner!
