Smile Alton Masonic Ham & Bean supper

I had all intentions to attending the Ham & Bean supper last night as the ones I have attended before have been excellent in food and conversation. Could someone tell me what I missed this time as I had company come as we were leaving to go chow down and we even invited them, but they said they would rather sit here at the house and catch up on old times. No beans, no ham were enjoyed in this body. Next time hopefully.

Default Sorry you missed it RLW...

What we started doing after the first Beanhole dinner was offer takeout. A guy came in and asked if we had takeout containers. We told him we did, and he said it is his turn to cook on Saturday nights, and could he get 4 dinners to go. Absolutely, we said, and set him up, including the plastic silverware (that's an oxymoron, isn't it).

Since that night, we have advertised at our Chicken dinner and last night's Beanhole dinner that we can do takeout as well as eat in. It is a popular option, and allows folks not to have to get kids cleaned up, or just be able to go home and sit down to watch the Red Sox or Pats, or whatever.

So, RLW, sorry you weren't able to take advantage of that last night. Ham was outstanding, beans were great (kidney and navy), cole slaw, cornbread, and ice cream for dessert (vanilla or Fudge Ripple), punch or lemonade, water or coffee. Served about 125 folks, with 25-30 takeouts. Maybe next time. See you at breakfast on Sunday.

Here is a picture of the beans coming out.

Thanks muchly for the input. I see Frank is still in the bean hole. You had a great turn out plus the carry outs. I had completely forgot about the take out which I could have done Saturday very easily.

I will be at the next breakfast which I believe is Sunday October the 20th, am I right?? I don't like missing that gathering and great food. I also get to see many friends that I only get the chance to see them is at the breakfast.
