Default Corner House Inn/ Monday Wine Not?

This is one of the best deals out there. On Mondays $40 gets you a bottle of wine, homemade bread, salad, entrees, sides, and coffee for two. We had the seafood diablo and the cranberry crusted haddock. The portions aren't scaled down either. The seafood diablo was loaded with shrimp and scallops with a spicy red sauce over linguini and then topped with a ton of crispy calamari. The haddock was topped with crushed Ritz crackers, dried cranberries, homemade butter and baked. It was all really good and the service was great.

I went to a story telling night at Corner House that happens in winter and spring I think. A friend invited me so I do not know all the details. It does not happen in summer as they cannot afford to lose the dining space in that season. It was fun though for something different. Think it was a group dinner and dessert with wine and then there was a person who told stories and also played music.

My recollection is that storytelling night begins about October 28 but you should check with Corner House.

Thanks Chubbs. They have a nice website with menus and directions with a map. http://www.cornerhouseinn.com/ It is always nice to hear about good experiences at a "new" place not mentioned here before ... as far as I can recall.

Talking One Of My Favorites!!

I love this place.

Great food, great prices (had a Sunday brunch for two for $14), and an amazing atmosphere! Very New Englandish!!!

RI...if you go, make sure you check out the room upstairs for a drink. It looks like something out of a Tolkien novel.

The Corner House is not new to being mentioned on our wonderful Forum. I have never driven there myself but went with two different people last summer and two others the summer before. This year I was at the lake early and got to go to the last story telling with a neighbor. I was at the upstairs room a year ago and at a main room for dining this summer.

They seem to have different kinds of events I guess.

The group meal at the story telling was an interesting experience. I think it may only happen once a month but not sure. There were some very nice people in the group and we all had fun chatting etc. One of the couples had just returned from a tour where they sang with others in different countries. One of the singing dinner guests joined in with the story teller during the singing, humming in a harmonizing way. The story teller said it was lovely and a nice evening was had by all.

I was afraid someone would say that.
Memory is the second thing to fail ... and I forget what the first is

Jay, that second floor sounds interesting, now I have to make an effort to go.

The Corner House has even more atmosphere than the Woodshed. You should definitely make it a point to have dinner in their upstairs pub. The food is wonderful, too.

Agreed and you can get a good burger there as well. Woodshed is good for a big meal, but sometimes a sandwich is called for!

Love the bar at CHI

Default Corner House Wine night!

My Hubby and I went to the Corner House this past Monday and it was very good. The service was excellent (of course we were there at 5pm and most don't get there til the Pub upstairs opens at 5:30), so we had the downstairs near the fireplace all to ourselves!
I had the Haddock and "YES" it was delicious and lots of it, Hubby had the meatloaf made of venison, pork and beef with a hearty brown gravy, delicious!
The wine (Avia) was shiraz and a great choice.

All in all a great quiet evening out! Do try it before it goes away like lots of other things we get to enjoy!

The Corner House is one of my most favourite restaurants in the area. The food is always good, decent sized portions and a good pub atmosphere. You cannot go wrong there! Enjoy!

We went in the dead of winter last year and sat upstairs in a small room with its own fireplace and these lovely little dim wall sconces. The snow was piled up just so on the windowsills next to our table and someone was strumming away in the next room. The food and wine were great.

Needless to say, it was fabulous and we will be back!

I noticed a Corner House ad in the GSN today looking for chef, waitstaff, and bartender. The last two seemed standard, but...chef? Did someone leave? We were planning on going this weekend...should we wait?

We went to the Corner House on Saturday night for dinner.

Short version:
We Loved it. I wouldn't hesitate to go back, or to recommend it to someone else looking for an excellent meal.

Long version:
We got there about 10 minutes early for our 6:30 reservation for 4 people, and were seated immediately. The table was in one of the front windows, and was nicely situated there.

The drinks order was taken quickly, delivered shortly afterwards, at which time and we placed our food order. Freshly baked breads were delivered with butter as a table appetizer. Someone came by with a water jug soon after and asked if we'd like our glasses filled (yes, please!) and did a nice job of keeping them filled throughout the meal...without hovering.

Lobster/mushroom bisque, French onion soup (I'm a sucker for onion soup), and 3 salads were the first round. The bisque was declared to be delicious (licking the bowl was discussed briefly) and contained a generous portion of lobster meat. My onion soup was fantastic, nicely toasted cheese, very rich broth, full of onions. The salads were a nice size (not huge, but not tiny) and the dressings were fresh. I had the Caesar, and I'd guess that it was homemade...there was definitely a twang of anchovy in it.

For the main courses, we had chicken piccata, chicken stir-fry, shrimp scampi, and chicken carbonara. After delivering food to a neighboring table, the waiter cleared our starters, and told us he'd check on our order, as it seemed to be running late. A few minutes later he came back with the order, and we started in. There was a little bit of cross-the-table sampling, but for the most part everyone guarded their plates fiercely as the food was delicious.

We passed on the desserts because we were all pleasantly stuffed.

The total for 4 people came to $114 before tip, including 3 glasses of wine.

Great:
The food was excellent, service was attentive, menu selection was very good and offered many different choices.

Good:
Mains were delayed slightly, maybe 5-10 minutes beyond what would have been perfect, but...overall not a big issue.

So-so:
Although the atmosphere was very nice-yet-relaxed, one of the servers had a nosering, or an eyebrow ring maybe? I don't remember. Not a big deal, but...it struck me as a little out-of-place. Wine was $7/glass...and it was a small glass. Then again I'm a cheap SOB, so that's probably just me.

Bad:
We didn't leave room for dessert.

We really enjoyed the meal...and we'll be back.

Wink One of My Favs!!!

I've always loved the Corner House!!!

It's quintessential New England/New Hampshire with its charm and decor.

If you go, try the stuffed mushroom caps!! They're to die for!!

The Oscar's are amazing too (veal, chicken, and steak-I think).

Thanks for the review patman...very honest and fair.
