Default berry pond ice racing

Just curious about how that works. they block off the public launch and put an attendant there. big sign that says 20 dollars per car. how do they get away with charging money to get on at a public launch? there has to be over 150 cars out there. That's $3000 dollars that goes where?

I wouldn't (obviously) but what if I wanted to drive my car onto there to fish the back side, does it cost me 20 dollars? I'm not against the racing, it looks like fun but I cant take over a pond for the day and charge admission to get on it.

I think some of the proceeds go to a cancer fund

Default Latchkey Cup

It's called the Latchkey Cup and proceeds go to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center

http://lakesregioniceracingclub.tripod.com/

You should check it out. It's a lot of fun to watch and goes to a great cause.

If you told them that you were just coming onto the ice to fish, they would not charge you.

As it was noted by others, the $20 race on Saturday was a benefit. It is usually $10 a carload and worth every penny.

OK , so it goes to a good cause. That is great to hear. What if I wanted to watch the race, are they not going to let me drive on if I don't pay the 20 dollars?

I recall that the sign said "$20 Donation" or they might have said it to me? Either way if you didn't want to "donate" I guess they'd probably let you on. Also, they do not count heads in your car so in my case I had 5 people, that's 4 bucks a head. Great entertainment for $4 IMHO.

Default Latchkey Cup race on Berry Pond

These guys & gals are some of the nicest around. Over the years they have donated over $200,000 to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, but if you really felt a donation was not proper or possible, I'm sure they would give you a pass. Here's what this year's looked like:

I also did some close-ups, and liked one so much I made it the subject of this month's calendar page:

You can download the hi-resolution calendar from here if you like. Or view an album of ice racing aerials here.

Default motorcycles ?

Do they allow motorcycles to race there, too?

If I'm not mistaken you can't ice fish out there no matter what day of the week it is because it would make it very dangerous to race with a bunch of holes in the ice. My husband races there and enjoys every minute. They are very generous with the money. I think that even if you walk down from your house it would be a good thing to donate since the money goes to a very good cause. We also ride motorcycles in the summer over to Davids House and bring stuffed animals to all of the children suffering with cancer. So I guess before one complains about the amount of money it costs to go watch a good show, think about how much harder it would be to be suffering from cancer! Why someone wouldn't want to pay is beyond me.

Not complaining about the money. I agree that the money goes to a good cause.
All I was pointing out is that its illegal. I pay for a NH fishing license and that is a public launch on a public water body. They could not stop you from fishing there if you wanted to. A fisherman or anybody else for that matter has just as much of a right to use the pond as the racers do. A group cant just block of a body of water and charge admission unless its private. I don't ice fish there or plan to since the water is probably full of racing fuel and oil anyways. Some years they do it on berry and lees pond. Does that mean I cant fish either pond because they might want to race on them?

It is not illegal to cut in line at a movie theatre but is it the "right" thing to do?

There are lots of activities we might have a legal "right" to do but choose not to for the sake of others.
