Default New Boat

Took the plunge today and traded in the Premier for a new Bennington 2572 QCW. Didn't take long to work out a deal with Ryan at Winisquam Marine and should be taking delivery this Friday.

Looking forward to trying her out at her new home on Welch Island!

Dan

Very cool!

Pontoon comfort and styling has come a long way. Those Yamaha OB's are so smooth.

Looks like Premier will become the orphaned boat on the lake. I wonder if anybody will pick up the line?

Lol!! The Eastern will now be my primary fishing boat as it makes for a great fishing platform. The Benny will strictly be for cruising and entertaining.

The "Q" is the best tritoon out there as far as I'm concerned....only thing even close in design and styling is the Harris Crowne.
Your Blackout edition is stunning.....mine is blue.
It's pretty impressive when you see it at night with the underwater and running lights on.

Default Large Pontoon Boat

We passed a large pontoon boat with a flying bridge and a water slide at its stern in Smith Cove on our return to port Sunday evening. Wow!!!

When driving over the bridge over the channel yesterday, I saw a sign announcing that Crest will be carried by Channel Marine. Also noticed that the Crest logo is now on their website banner.

Congrats on that sleek new ride, Dan! Did you forgo the camper cover this time?

Yes, I did not bother with the full enclosure as I would never use it and since this boat will not be used for fishing, I didn't bother with the half enclosure either. I have always used full seat and helm covers on my other tri-toon boats and they work out very well, give better protection from sun and the elements and are way more convenient to use. It comes with a full mooring cover which will be used for storage only...

All three pontoon boats I have had, seat covers were factory made. I have them made with extra anchor points as I use them when underway and at full speed. The only time they come off is if that seat is being used. If it's just my wife and I, there's no reason to take the bow seat covers off as there is plenty of room in the stern.

Nice ride. Just got back from a week away, but checked out the pics a few times while we were gone. We were on a different boat, a cruise ship in 20-25' seas....

Hi Codeman;

Just playing around with it the other day, I think she will top out in the low 50's, the same as my old Manitou did. (that boat was crazy fast!) But this boat is 4' longer and a lot heavier so I am very happy with the results! I haven't played with props or dialed in the trim yet but it sure seems like Bennington has done their homework on the prop so I may stick with what's on there...

I think what impressed me the most so far is it doesn't seem to matter how many people are on board as it barely affects the speed and how well it rides and handles. I had 10 people on board yesterday and it performed flawlessly. That Yamaha really has a lot of mid and upper level torque!

Very impressed so far with the Bennington and the Yamaha!!

Dan

Channel's website shows them selling Crest pontoons now. The Manitou webpage still has Fay's listed as the local dealer. Irwin does list Premier on their website.

Anyone know the state of Crest at Trexler's?

Still waiting to hear about the top end. My guess is 53 with 2 passangers and 1/2 tank of fuel.

I'm still breaking her in but yes I would say you are extremely close. Again, different prop may give different results but I am not there yet, at least not until the motor has a little more time on her and I can play with it a little.

Stop by and try her out if you like!

Default 2 stroke/ 4 stroke

Dan, how are you enjoying your 4 stroke? I wish I had gone that route.

Unlike my motorcycle, I like my boats quiet!

So far I love the new Yamaha 4 stroke...powerful and super quiet!

The only 2 stroke I would even think of would be an Etec. I had a 250 H.O. Etec before on my Manitou tri-toon and it was powerful and very quiet!

After the Manitou, I had a 250 4 stroke Verado installed on my Premier and that was super quiet. I couldn't even tell that motor was running unless I looked at the RPM gauge!

I have the Merc Pro XS 2 stroke 200HP on my Premier. They told me it was cheaper to run than a 4 stroke, but the cost of the DI oil costs much more than an annual oil change, which I was told is $250. That and the noise make me NOT a fan of the 2 stroke. I also like quiet.

I LOVE the smell of two stroke exhaust in the morning...

but my Merc 50 has an annoying snarl as it hits the power band.

Sometimes sea conditions require staying in that rpm zone and I'm growing tired of it.

My Edgewater 140cc, beast that she is, will not enjoy the extra transom weight of a four stroke

We were up for the day and got picked up at Glendale so we weren't around too long. We are staying at our old neighbors place for a long weekend 8/13-16 while they are out of town, hopefully I will run into you and will take you up on your offer.

The wife wants a boat again next year and I am pushing for another toon.
