Default Another one through the ice

This was yesterday at the Meredith Town Docks. I was told the driver was ok. Please be careful when attempting to retrieve any remaining Bob Houses! It does appear that the Town has now blocked the ramp.

Default trash again

Know what I really love.....the people that remove their bobhouses but leave all their extras behind (as seen in the back ground of the first photo.) Two small trees and a metal barrel left at the site where one bob house sat all winter. Obviously not a boater because I'm sure he wouldn't want to hit those when they start floating around the lake in a couple of weeks. For the most part, especially with the amount of houses out there this winter, they do a good job of cleaning up their area. But seriously, leaving your little trees and a barrel on the ice...ignorant

We've got ice in, and we've got ice out. We need a new guess-the-date contest:

Ice through - date of the last vehicle through the ice in the fall, and the date of the first vehicle through the ice in the spring.

Default Down at the docks today . . .

taking photos. The last two bob houses were removed, and I saw two other men removing the barrel and I didn't stay for the trees . . . but, hopefully the trees. There are still trees down in Smith Cove. Idiotic

Default Today 3/27 5 p.m.

Last house being pulled off, these guys took their wood. I'm not sure if it was the camera, or good conscience.

One of the guys was in a dry suit. They had a rough go of it. I'm not sure where they pulled it off the ice.

p.s. The barrel was being removed too. I assume the platform and trees, as well.

Drove by last night and noticed the last house gone (it looked like it was imbedded in the ice so I bet it was hard to remove). Also noticed the barrel gone but the trees remain. Granted they are not big trees and I'm sure were a conversation piece during the winter but simply take them off the ice when you remove your bob house

The bobhouse that was the last off, was mine for years. Sold mid season to the new owner. Despite everyone being concerned, there was still 12" of ice under the house. The new owner took it off, had a little trouble getting it moving due to lack of snow and no studs on the sled. Once it got moving it towed nicely to the far shore where it can be removed easily. He did pick up the wood, and the house was not frozen in, I had walked out a couple days earlier and it was still up on the 4x4's I had under the skis. As far as the other trash left behind, It always bothers me, I for years made sure all signs of me being on the ice, left with me. Not sure why this is so hard for others. Now looking forward to Boating season!

Here's how they do it in Russia. Low tech but effective! (just turn the music down....)

Default Just curious

Not being an ice fisher (our lakes don't freeze here) what are the trees for? Are they for burning in the barrel to keep warm?

Some people use some of their own "landscaping" around their bob houses to give it that home feeling, which is fine but when you move, take everything you brought out back with you. It's so simple to do. How can you feel that it is alright to just leave this or anything else out on the ice

I couldn't get over the mess left behind in Meredith. Not a good showing for the ice fishermen, I can imagine what the bottom looks like under those spots.

Has anyone ever spoken to F&G about this? We haven't been up for a couple months, but will be day tripping soon!

Default Budget cuts . . .

need more money for a $10MM facility to house the other tax collectors (i.e. State Police). But that's another thread.

The ice still looks plenty thick, saw a full size Silverado pickup truck on the ice this weekend. Opechee bay looks like it may open up before Paugus or Winni even begins to.
