Island living
I am writing a story for "The Laker Home" magazine about island living. I am looking for a few residents to interview for the piece. Shoot me an email if you're interested! If you have input but are not up for an interview, you could post here too.
Here are a few questions: - What drew you to residency on the islands? - How does the reality of island living stack up against what you'd imagined? - How have you adapted to the logistics of island living (work, errands, transportation, etc) - What advice do you have for those considering island living? Thank you! |

Welcome to Brookfield Gal
Welcome to the Forum, Brookfield Gal.
Re:Your first question "What drew you to island living"? On the Gilford islands, many of us have been here for 3-5 generations. We weren't attracted, we were just always here. |

Island Living
In response to your questions:
1) We were drawn to living on the lake by the beauty and ability to relax. We were drawn to the islands by the financial feasibility and spaciousness. You can't get 1/2 an acre with a cabin on the mainland for less than half a million dollars, which we don't have. 2)The reality of island living is very similar to what we thought we would be getting into. Relaxing, but hard honest work. 3)We are slowly adapting to the logistical part. Putting in a dock was like putting in a driveway, not easy work. Once the dock was in, it made life a lot easier. 4)Advice, you need to be a DIY'er to even consider island living. My wife and I are practically our own contractors at our mainland house, so it was not a big deal to live on an island. You can't just have the basic DIY stuff down, you need to be a bit more advanced (or know someone who is). Make sure you know exactly what kind of island property you would like as they are all very different. Some properties have very rough water, some are in the shade all year long (face north), some have deep water, some have shallow water, a lot of properties are not flat and require staircases, etc. |

Seems like you are looking for dirt and gossip...
Ok, so this is the 3rd place you've posted the Tamposi request....the last two of which have been in threads totally unrelated to your question.
The only reason I'm even responding is because I know some of the members of that family and it seems like you are looking for dirt and gossip. If so, look in the tabloids at the checkout at Hannaford's or Shaws....not in this Forum... |

Sorry Brookfield Gal
You asked a simple "Living On Island" questions and got a unrelated response from an outer space Alien. Apologies. We have these Aliens fly by once in a while.

sorry for the misunderstanding, I went to boarding school with them and my sister dated one at Yale...I was at the lake a few weeks back and wanted to stop by if anyone had an idea where their homes were located.

Phone first
You should always telephone first. It's not polite to just stop by unannounced.

That's not really any better. I happen to know some of them, what makes you think anyone would give info based on those posts? Especially the "drama" comment.

I used to hate it when my ex-girlfriends just "stopped by". It was especially bad when 3 or 4 of them just showed up (stopped by) at the same time. Messy!
