Default ....keeping the ice fast ?

Seeing a Zamboni www.zamboni.com clean and smooth out the ice is standard at a municipal ice arena, so I wonder what does the Meredith Pond Hockey Classic do to keep the ice smooth and fast between hockey periods?

Do they send ten guys with buckets of hot, hot water and mops out there, or what, because the ice definitely slows down a lot with the accumulated build-up of the white ice shavings created by the action of the skate blades?

This 3:03 youtube from Dec 23, 2010 shows a home made Zamboni used to clean the ice on a backyard pond:

So's ........ have to wonder ......how does Meredith Pond Hockey deal with this problem?

Ah, finally I get to pass on my Zamboni knowledge! I have been a Zamboni driver for 11 years. It's one of those "dream" part-time jobs. It would do a good job out there, but the "rinks" are small, and rectangular, which would be tricky to clean all the ice. The machine needs a good turning radius.

As far as events like this, it's a simple task to re-surface. Sometimes we cut a hole in the ice and get a hand-crank pump...just flood it. I think for this event, at the end of the night, they bring out fire trucks.

Looking forward to it this year. I usually go up and watch a few games. It's one of those New England special events. (gives me an excuse to go check on the summer house too!)
