Jet Ski Racing
I plan on forming an interest group with people who may be interested in Jet SKi racing on the lake. I'm basically looking for people's opinions on the subject and want to know if anyone would be interested in joining the group? This is in the very early planning stages, nothing in stone and just looking to see what kind of interest, if there is any, out there...If you are interested, send me a private message with you name and email address.

Eeeek,,, Good Luck with that,,,
I would think you might be better off if you start with some official body and then try to work your way up. I dont see a grass roots thing working given the current political environment concerning such activities. If you can pull it off, I will gladly watch as I do with the water ski shows in the Back Bay and when they used to have real racing on the lake, but I'm not holding my breath. Sorry dont mean to be a kill joy, just dont know if I believe you will be able to overcome the many forces at work against such activities,,, I wish you all the best. |

Keep me in the loop. I used to race a long time ago (APBA), and don't currently own a 'ski, but could be convinced to rectify that participate

Good Luck!
Maybe you should try Winnisquam. The US water ski association is moving their water ski championship to Winnisquam because of political pressure.

jet ski races
While I do not own a jet ski, I have wondered for a long time why there was not. It seems to me that would be just the thing.

What about the................
I didn't want to mention it in the title but what did you intend to do about the speed limit?
If you wanted to get a waiver (like they did for the decibel level of the boat races years ago) you might investigate that first. |

Speed limits would not likely be an issue. You're generally racing a circular/irregular course with a dozen other boats. Between the wakes and semi-frequent turns, speeds above 45MPH wouldn't be very common.

They have successfully run the vintage boat races in Wolfeboro for years. Special waivers of such rules as speed limits and 150' rule can be obtained for special events. There should be no issue with organizing a jet ski race as well. You could get manufactures and/or some organized group such as an owner’s organization or racing club involved. Sounds like fun.

I think something like this would be a lot of fun to watch and would draw quite a few people especially if done near the mainland such as the Weirs. Lord knows the Weirs could certainly use the boost!
I say go for it! Dan |

I agree, hold it in an area where non boaters can also watch it and local merchants can gain a benefit as well. That way you'll have more people pulling for you to be able to have it.

The new Weirs boardwalk has a terrific view of the water, and most likely a pwc race would be very welcome by the Weirs. Ditto that, double big-time for a performance boat race course, too!
