Default Small Metal Mooring Ball - Near 20-Mile Bay

There is a small metal mooring ball in the water between 20-Mile Bay and Melvin Bay, about 200' away from the Eastern shore. It's been there over a week. Last week when I went by, there was a long line drifting away from it. I stopped to take a look and talked to the folks at the nearest dock. They said a diver dropped it to mark a dive site. I tied up the floating line as best I could so it wasn't as much of a risk to someone's prop.

Does anyone know about it?

Default mooring ball

We saw that mooring ball when out for a slow ride this past Friday and wondered why it was so far from shore. It seems that it would be a hazard to someone going along on plane and not paying complete attention.
