Thumbs up Names on the forum.

Trying to pass the days before our trek to the lake.....here is something to keep me busy.
What does your name on the forum mean, or stand for? Just me being nosey....mine is glennsteely, which is, you guessed it! My name! What can I say, I'm not very creative.

Put it all out there for all to see.....this could be fun, and by the personalities here, I know that 99% of this is going to be creative central!!

I live/work in Raleigh, NC and my last name is Banks. There is a road in Raleigh called Homewood Banks Dr. Some coworkers started calling me Homewood and it kinda stuck.

Hmmm. When I was getting my license back in the 60's, I was told that CAVU was an acronym for, "Ceiling And Visibility Unlimited". Then again, my instructor was Richard Bach.

As for how I picked my user name ... it's a trade secret.

Interesting... I was always told "clear air" Ceiling sounds more offical, although maybe they we're teaching me the "slang" version

In over 14 years as an air traffic controller, "CAVU" always meant ceiling and visibility unlimited, but your reasoning would, to me, mean essentially the same.

Screen name follows the boat name. Best part of the summer is the breeze off of the lake hence Summer Breeze. So the boys Seals and Crofts nailed it.

Default ToW =

ToW: Acronym for Tired of Waiting; Derived from the rules and philosophy of life.

Tow begins at conception. From that time forth one is in the mode of waiting. So we can most likely blame our parents for ToW. It all starts with the nine month wait to move into the light of the world. From there we wait for the attention, food, bottom cleaning and so on. The parents are in the mode of waiting for the child to indicate their needs which is at the most inopportune times. Which the parents can blame on the child.

From infancy to the time we pass into the other life waiting takes at least 75% of our time. For some much more.

For example on any given day it could go like this:

Rise from bed, no waiting here, well for some of us that is. To the kitchen, start the coffee, we are now in 1xToW.
While the coffee is brewing we start the eggs, we are now in 2xTow,

Ok at this point you might say you’re not waiting for the coffee because you are starting the eggs. I ask, would you be starting the eggs if the coffee was done instantly? No, you’d cream and sugar the coffee and THEN start the eggs.

Now on with the story; we put bread in toaster and push the button down, we are now 3xToW. So as can be seen we can be in multiple ToWs. The eggs finish, we plate the eggs, the coffee finishes, we start to cream and sugar the coffee and the toast pops up so we leave the eggs and coffee to tend to the toast. Now the coffee and eggs are in Tow while you tend to the toast. Here you can see that not just humans can have ToW. At last the meal is complete. However, you might now have to wait for the other person/s to join you for the meal, again another ToW. Now all this is being done very early in the morning while you are waiting for the sun to rise to produce that beautiful sunrise on the lake another Tow. Oh and while all this is going on in the morning you are still in ToW for that return phone call from yesterday.

You may continue this story on your own. If not you can ToW for me to do it in the future.

Just think, what would life be like if there was no ToW? Instant everything!! There is something to be said for instant gratification.

ToW

Default Water Camper

Back in the mid to late 90's we used to stay on our boat at Lakeport Landing. To us it seemed like we were camping on our boat, hence the name Water Camper.

Hope you like,

Also the name of my boat.... Taken from one of the Native American tribe's name for the lake "Smile of the Great Spirit". It's also appropriate because I believe God smiled upon me when He brought me back to such a beautiful place.

I don't know about everyone else, but this is a GREAT thread....

I love it !

"Tired Of Waiting" gets the prize so far ( in my book) and here I thought "Phantom" ( visionary or elusive) was cryptic.

Default Marines

I wasn't going to respond whereas I had in the previous post, but the Semper Fi at the end of BB's post got me. My son is on his way to Okinawa as we speak. Way Out there is a book written by some local historians about the area of town we live in.

Thanks for the hospitality. Lots of good information here. I finally bought a place in Moultonborough last year after looking for what seemed like an eternity. After many repairs, the place is looking good. Jeff

Oregonrain... I live in Oregon and it rains 10 months out of the year. I'm dreaming of drier climates... or is it that I'm dreaming of a 38 foot RV? Yep, that's it!! The RV!!

I got to see the beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee for the first time this year and fell in love with it!

I was on the U.S. Shooting team (Palma) for many years and we were restricted to the .308 caliber in international competitions, hence the name "ishoot308"

Default As for me...

I was born in March and that summer started a string of going to the lake that was only interrupted by my four and a half years in Alaska and my year in Thailand while in in the Air Force. Started off at Lake Shore Park and ended up in Two Pines Trailer park in Glendale. Then in 1996, we moved to Alton Bay.

As a toddler, I couldn't pronounce Winnepesaukee, so I would ask if we were going "Up the Saukee". That phrase lasted and in the years following my parents would say "Don't make plans for the weekend, we are going up the Saukee.

In 1996, after we moved in with Mom here in Alton Bay, she remarked "that you don't have to "go Upthesaukee" anymore, you live here", and the User Name and Signature was born.

Additionally, when I am feeling creative and make greeting cards on the computer, I put a little logo on the back stating "Upthesaukee Creations".

Finally, when I got my first boat after moving here, it was called "Upthesaukee". After trading it in on a new boat, the new boat is called "Upthesaukee Too".

Farfrumbehavin was my dog's name. His house name was "Spunky". He was a Daschund, if you are familiar with the breed than you know the how well the name fits. We showed him until he became a Champion, we were very proud of him. We had him for 14 yrs, we lost him 5 yrs ago and I still miss him terribly. He loved our boat more than we do and so I named it after him. I hope it will always be as loyal to me as he was. We remember him as big heart that was shaped like little dog. God has the dogs that I have lost in one place and when I get there we are going to have a pig pile! When I think of it I just can't hold it back.

My name derives from my love of Airedale Terriers. They have been in my family for generations and I have had 6 of them in my life since the early 70's.
All have been males and 3 were pups from a breeder and three were adult rescues. IMO they are TFAOTP (the finest animals on the planet).

The attached picture shows 10 Terriers and the 3 Airedales are the large black and tan ones in the rear.
