Woke up this morning to see another great sunrise.
How many island residents (by boat) are still coming up? I was suprised to see the north easterly side of Mark and Mink Islands dark last night, not a sole in sight. We enjoyed a half moonlit night on the porch last night, looks like we are in for a treat the next few days with temps hitting 50's. Couple more weeks for us before we close up, the dock comes out the day after Thanksgiving. |

We shut down the weekend after Columbus Day. We mainly do this because we get so busy at Home during the fall. Plus, I would be spending so much time worrying about a hard freeze and my pipes bursting. We have little kids and the though is that when they get older we will extend the season. Right now it's a bit tough dragging the twins (6) and a 2 year old this time of year. I am jealous though on days/weekends like these. I find that most of my neighbors close up right around the time we do. It seems like Columbus day is really "the last hurrah."
Enjoy the peace and quiet. I was up for a day trip last weekend on Sunday. It was beautiful.

We closed up today. Only saw a few boats all day. Around 3:00 I sat at the water's edge and just listened to how absolutely silent the lake was. Can't wait for ice out to do it all again next year.

We are still here (Welch Island), though this is the last overnight weekend. Camp will be closed up this week and one or two more day trips next weekend and the following and that will be it.

Coming up next weekend and then the final hurrah every year is Thanksgiving weekend. No running water though... that was drained a few weeks back. If it's warm enough, we'll fire it up for the weekend and drain again.

I almost dropped the boat in Great Bay and went for a ride today as it was gorgeous down here, but couldn't get the wife and kids to bite. |
