It might be a young muscovy duck. If it is, it is considered a domestic duck.

Muscovy ducks develop an irregular "growth" below the eyes and above the bill. It looks like this to some extent in the photo. In addition, you said he did not mind you being near, pointing to a domestic duck. I am fairly sure it is in some level of distress if it is a muscovy. They originated in central America when in the wild.
