We are saddened that the late frost killed off much of the local crop. It's a lot of work to manage a good orchard and this must be a hard year for local growers.

We normally pick a half bushel of cortlands about now and another in about 2 weeks. My wife did make a pie today with fresh cortlands that she got at the Alton Hannaford store, the display said grown in Barnstead. Not as satisfying as picking our own but I'll say that this pie with a scoop of Giffords vanilla ice cream is pretty darn good.
