I had similar problems with overheating on my 800 liquid a few weeks ago.
The sled was parked in the garage and all the ice on the heat exchanger melted. The Lake surface was hard and granular and did not provide enough cooling to prevent the sled from overheating. Probably, just like the tracks you were riding. I needed to stop a number of times to allow it to cool. A couple of guys in fan cooled sleds stopped to ask if I needed help. They had no problems since the temps were low enough, and there was enough snow for the slides.
