Default Sales Tax

Why should I be penalized for how I choose to spend my hard earned dollars? What if I decide to buy a new car every year? Should I pay 8% of my purchase....or $2400 in sales tax to the NH coffers?
I don't agree that any sales tax is fair. The bitter truth is that an income tax is the fairest of all. I know, I know I'm getting ready for the flames but those who can most afford the taxes would be paying it when they can most afford it, during their high income years.
On another note, I don't trust that the politicians would "adjust" property taxes to make up for the increased revenue of an income tax ( or a sales tax for that matter). They would wallow in their windfall and direct so much of the tax revenue to their pet projects that we'd see no real decrease in the property tax.
Excuse me while I run out to Walmart and get a fire extinguisher or three...
