The part of all these articles and posts that I don't understand is the whole concept of "Ice-In". In all my years in the area, I never heard of anyone who can define the criteria for it, nor has it really been needed. People usually don't worry about it if they can use the lake ice the way they like (bob houses, runways, sled riding, etc), even if large sections of the Broads are open or very thin.
While the definition of Ice-Out is relatively clear, per the referenced article, has Dave Emerson ever really declared "Ice-In"?
