It seems to be that the plastic props break for some reason. I suspect aluminum may have a problem with "corrosion"... being in close proximity to the electric motor. So I guess maybe this is why plastic seems to be more common.

How about the plastic prop off that electric trolling motor that you're not going to use during the winter.. Maybe they are plastic for the same reason as mentioned above. NB
