My guess, BR is calling pontoons minivans because they're not "cool". It always struck me as funny with the minivan versus SUV coolness factor. A he-man SUV is cool because it has 4WD, even if you order it with 2WD.

Personally I never owned a toon, but they sure look practical. I guess most have solved the dayboater problem of having a toilet.

As an overnight boater, they still have shortcomings, although I have seen comprehensive canvas packages.

I don't like to dock next to them in tight spaces like Weirs or Aton, they seem to have sharp stuff sticking out all over.

Dollar for dollar they have to be among the safest boats and most practical for an islander. A self bailing Whaler or Grady-White might give it a run in the real snotty weather but you can't carry near as much.
